I reached out to a forum member today and they suggested that I shotgun out this question for the audience.
I've searched through threads and haven't found much in terms of best/optimum re-gear ratios. I have a 95 4runner 5-speed with the 3.slow. It has 33s on it right now and it drags serious ass - I can hit 75 if and only if I'm going down a 35% grade hill. It has been lifted and is fitted with K&N cold air intake. I would like the runner as a 60% overland vehicle and 40% off-road capable. I'd like to be able to keep up with traffic on the highway.
With that said, what would be the best ratio to look into for a re-gear. I'd rather re-gear and keep the engine until it dies (166K on it) than do an engine swap. I'd appreciate any advice you can lend. Thanks.
