Option: Double-decker cargo system

Not only is it inconvenient if you have a dog, my dog at least, can not get a grip on the hard surface of the DD cargo thing. He slides around on it and I can tell it was stressfull for him. I now put a rubber mat over top of it and he is fine.
I went to Home Depot and bought a piece of carpet runner to go on top so that stuff wouldn't slide. Was cheap, too, at less than $10.

Glad that your dog has a grip now -- don't want him to slide in his truck that he lets you drive from time to time. :p

Yea, you should see the looks he gives me from the house window if I drive off in his 4Runner without him. :D

I was going to do the carpet thing but I thought the carpet might not stay put either. Anyway I found a rubber cargo area cover at Costco for $15 and it looks and works great. I had to trim the mat but it had trim lines on it so it was easy and neat.

geez! a lot of you don't find use for your double decker cargo tray?

... can i have it then?

haha... i didn't want one at first, but now see how i could use it for organizational purposes...

I have it in mine, and I find it to be pretty much useless.

If you have it raised, and put anything on top of it. First time you go around a corner, or accelerate too fast. Everything just falls off.

If you have it down, and put anything in the back, make sure you have the cargo net in place. Because as soon as you open the tailgate, everything that might have fallen off that curved edge will be on the ground, if the net isn't in place.

I found out the hard way when Opened the back, and a 30lb thing of cat litter fell on my foot.

I really wish mine hadn't came with it.

After 3+ years of ownership, I have yet to use it. You should be aware that if you get it, it can't be readily removed, because if you do there will be missing carpeting at the front of the cargo area.

IMHO, this is the silliest, most useless feature on the truck, right up there with the anti-rollback (Hill Start Assist) feature on the ABS.

Great truck otherwise!
