4th Gen Sun Visor Mod and AutoDimming Rearview Mirror

I got tired of being blinded by the sun coming in the driver's window on the way home from work every day. I have that drive where the sun was situated just perfectly so that the sun visor wouldnt block it no matter where you put it. I needed sun visors that would extend to block the sun. So I bought a set of tan 4th Gen sun visors. Got the set for $100 on ebay. Believe me, it was harder than you think to locate a tan set. TONS of gray sets. Anyways, the color matches pretty good. And the vinyl goes well with the Limited leather!

I had a bunch of pics showing how to do it. Unfortunately my phone died and the pics with it. Fortunately its pretty easy to do and straight forward. You just reuse the 3rd Gen mounting brackets and install them on the 4th Gen visors. You have to trim the 4th Gen visor mounting post down just a bit to get it to fit. I used a Dremel sanding drum and a bit of patience. Once they are sanded down enough to click back into the 3rd Gen brackets you are good to go. They fit perfectly. The visor themselves are pretty much the same size as the 3rd gens (maybe a just a bit wider).

I also just installed an AutoDimming Rearview mirror. It also has a compass, which is what I was really doing the mod for, and a temperature sensor. Works great.

I got it from nissanh and he has a write up already, so I didnt do one. Find it here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...-mirror-compass-thermometer-installation.html

Instead of wiring the power into a fuse like he shows, I just used my dedicated switched ignition circuit I created (see previous mods). The mirror fits perfectly between the sun visors too.

That is all nice work. I don't believe I've seen the 4th generation visor mod before and I like that. The stock visors definitely leave something to be desired.

On the switches for the DVD headrest, are those just power switches, or do they have another function?

Thats good to hear haha, for some reason and a moderate summer day in texas when its around 98 degrees my rearview seems to think it'll be a scorcher from anywhere between 115-156 degrees, and no it's not in celsius haha 156 is the highest I've seen it

They are just power switches. The power button on the DVD player itself is a little hard to reach from the front seats (and a little dangerous too). So its just a convenience, or if you need to ground the kiddos from the DVD player! :tsk:

Yeah that seems to have a lot to do with where the sensor is mounted. I put mine in the front left corner behind the bumper. It should get some fresh air there. Hopefully not a lot of heat soak from the bumper on summer days.
