Order wait time

So we are about to put in our order for a red 2012 Trail Edition, and it's going to take 6 months... WTF. I know I had heard this wait time before on the forum, but why does it take that long??? Is most of it just getting it here from Japan??? Our salesman told us it's probably taking that long because of the tsunami and earthquake. I even presented the idea of maybe a Trail is coming here sooner then 6 months, and could we just tell the factory for that Trail, we want so and so options. But apparently out of the 160 dealerships in our area, only ONE is getting a 2012 Trail. :mad: :redbrick:
And the 2012 4Runners were supposed to be here in late October, but now it's going to be around December.
Why the long wait time, and is anyone ordering a 2012, and having similar problems/wait times?

RAWR!!!! I hate it when earthquakes get in the way of my consumerism!!! Wanna talk about human suffering, 6 months to WAIT!!!

All in due time. Trust me, Toyota WANTS you to buy their product and are doing everything in their power to get it to you. I a world with earthquakes, tsunamis and other life and society shattering events, taking a deep breath now and then is needed.

Edit: I am ribbing on you, just a bit. Expect it, probably not just from me. This post is a perfect example of a "first world" problem and is laughable. And posting it up for the world to see, well that makes it fair game.

I am in no way angry that a complete catastrophe that happened to Japan, is making me wait 6 months. I only mentioned the tsunami because my salesmen mentioned it. I was just wondering why it takes half of a year. If it is because of the tsunami and earthquake then okay! I have patience to wait, and do not mind!
 
Your smiley faces clearly indicate anger. Perhaps you picked the wrong ones???

You have the mad one and the frustrated, beating head against one...

The entire country was devastated, literally. When you live on an island, a earthquake and tsunami are just about the worst combination. Take that with radioactive contamination and almost complete infrastructure loss to entire regions; yea that is one hell of a sucker punch.
So yea.... it is gonna take them a while to fix ****.

That it is only a 6 month lag is a testament to how f'ing hard they are working at rebuilding.

You should go drive your Porsche and relax.

Before tsunami it was 3 months waiting for special orders here so I'm not surprised about 6 months now.
 
You may as well buy a Jeep. I can not understand why Toyota does not build more Trails. A lot of people seem to want them but they limit the supply and loose customers.

Note to self... watch smiley choice in threads. I didnt take his post as at all negative toward the tsunami and he just gave a more than satisfactory explanation after you clearly talked down to him.

The guy is excited to get his dream 4runner.

Heed your own advice... but instead of that porsche, go drive your 4runner and relax.
 
I had no idea that what I thought was a simple and innocent question would get people angry at me for apparently belittling the disaster that happened in Japan, and seeming like I have no respect for what happened. In Florida there is obviously not a lot of off roading to be done, but we have some really nasty mud/swamp, as well as a lot of dunes and such. Sorry to offend all of you, next time I'll be more careful when using these virtual smiley face things.
 
BTW the negative faces I put in my post were in response to out of the 160 dealerships, only one is getting a Trail. So how is that to be viewed as me being angry that the earthquake is slowing Toyota's build time?
 
the only other thing i can suggest is that they do a nationwide search to see if theres one thats pretty close to what you want. that might help. course, you might end up paying a little to get it shipped if you are unwilling to wait.
 
If you're not dead set on a TE you could always get an SR5 or Limited and add the TE front trim like Harper7. Add an ARB air locker and some stiffer suspension and you're golden other than the KDSS. Otherwise, if you want the TE and don't want to go far to get it, use the six months to save some cash for any mods you might want to do to it like sliders, skids, bumper, etc.
 
Salsa Trail Edition 4R's are not lost arcs, there should be more than a handful in the US. Phone as many dealers you can until you find one who can source one in less than six months. All production and inventory levels post earthquake are back to normal - that's a BS excuse.
Dealers swap all the time, yours doesn't sound prepared to do some digging.
Check Cars.com everyday. My bet is you'll find a 2012 by Christmas, or shortly thereafter. Good luck.

PS, I just did a US nationwide search on salsa 4Rs. There are 283 available, many of them are 2011s, and many of them TEs.
You might even score a deal on a 2011.

Toyota doesn't sell Trail Editions in the midwest, so I contacted Toyota to find out where the closest region they were sold in was located. I called a dealer in that region and asked if they could check the allocation list for Red TEs (Each dealer gets an allocation list the beginning of the month telling them what vehicles are being shipped to that region, and dealer). In my case they had one coming in the next week, but if not they could use the list to get one. Once you make the purchase, ask who they use when they ship cars. The dealer I bought from made a recommendation, and that transporter delivered my 4R from Denver to St. Louis (836 miles) for $550 which was better than I could find anywhere else. I got it delivered to my door (literally) with 11 miles on the odometer and was able to break it in properly (a long highway drive is not the way to break in a motor), AND, I didn't have to take time off, incur travel expenses, etc.
