Ordering OME springs and Bilsteins

Decided to go with OME 906 rear coils and 880 fronts for my 02 runner, and bilstein 5100s all around. I'd just like to confirm with yall that Im ordering the right shocks.

Main thing I'm concerned about is the rear shocks are "extended travel." Does that mean they're designed for 3 inches + of lift only? Or will they fit the 2" of lift from the 906s?

Those are the ones you want. Extended travel is relative..these are good for anything above stock to probably 3" lift max. Anything above people are running 4th gen rear shocks or like me running LC shocks.

Ok cool. Should be as simple as taking old ones out and putting the new ones in right, since they're 4runner designed?

And what perch setting should I go with on the fronts?

this thread speaks to me, as I'm about to order tundra 5100's, OME 891 and 881 springs. So, I'm looking forward to hearing how this works out for you.

Haven't ordered yet... Looked up pics of similar setups and now I'm on the fence my almost new 265/70/16 tires will look extra small with the ome springs. Anybody have pictures running the same setup Im planning?

Bilstein has specific 5100's for the 3rd gen 4Runner.

Stock tires won't look too small with a 2" lift. I can't speak for the 880's but the 906 only lift it about 2". I have them on the wife's truck. I have my front Bilsteins at 0 but have 3" eibach lift springs in front.

I'll second that. Maybe if you had the stock 15" it would look odd, but the 265/70s look fine to me and I have the taller (but much softer) '890s in back. I can post a pic if you like, but since it's not the exact setup you're after I refrained.

As for the adjustable shocks, if you want to avoid lift-related issues with other components, don't raise them any higher than the springs will be on their own. The (roughly) 1.5" in front and 2" in back you'll have is about as high as you can go without other adjustments for the front axles, rear brakes, etc. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just warning about the slippery slope. And if you do want more height, you probably wouldn't want the '906s anyway.

Got my springs and shocks put on this weekend!





The front is about 3/8 inch higher than the rear, but not that noticeable. The first pic makes it look worse for some reason. Overall I'm very pleased with it. The ride is way improved over the wore out stuff. To see how wore out it was, I took an old front shock, compressed it, and it didn't even pop back out :wow:

I'm running 265/70 tires, so some /75's would complete the look, but only have 4,000 miles on my coopers so they're staying. Maybe some spydertrax wheel spacers are in the future.
