So one of my dad's girlfriend work friends, boy say that three times fast did route 3 and lots of clearing in a few sections. The one to Coos they said part of it was littered with small trees, why they opted to route 3 again. So chainsaw for those people.

The same area I ran into snow (your coming into it afterwards so no worry for you) but said where I found 6 feet they said easily 10 to 15, couldn't even get on it, like a cliff/stair to get on it. But in August I may go for a drive and get pictures

I'm thinking that you'll be entering route 4 by sisters on the 8th? I didn't see an email but only have my info to [MENTION=116467]Rock_Rat[/MENTION]

Doing my best to at least say hi and trail ride part of the day.

Oh - the really crappy thing is did something to my wrist at the trip, my right hand can't grab anything pick it up or etc so its in a splint. Forgot about it till I was playing squirt guns with my son and tried to squeeze the gun. So WTB Genetic altered body parts, will pay nothing but a thank you!!! My dad tells me I need to find a girl but who wants a overweight, broken guy who loves his Son and 4Runer more than a lot of other things, plus you gotta like dirt!j That equals like zero due to them already taken (lucky you all!!)

I took all my stuff from my swing away and tossed it on my roof rack. Not easy to get it to get it up there but no options and I...hate living in a 370 square foot apartment no room for a person. Are we officially using 2m for comms? My CB is a temp mount for trail work and I'd rather not drag it along if we are using 2m exclusively.

I don't think everyone has 2M capability so likely CB will be the official comms, although based on attendance we may switch over to 2M if it's an option.

Thanks for the info, Kotrin! I'll get you an email, no problem (I was under the impression you couldn't make any of the trip, sorry). Did you say that you know of some folks who already did Route 3 this year? Wow. I was reading the Rangers report on Deschutes Nat'l Forest last night and I wasn't too encouraged with the snow report - I am expecting to do A LOT of re-routing if not skipping the section altogether. The east end of section 6 is a big question mark too with snow levels. The report said snow levels are typically at 5400' right now. I haven't yet read up on Malheur. Ochoco looks pretty promising.

Everyone please feel encouraged to share any rumors/ intel you pick up. It's going to be a LATE season for snowmelt so we should all expect a fair amount bypassing from the official track. It'll still be a great trip no matter what though Fresh mountain air is a unique high!

I started to transfer some of the route to a Delorme Atlas, good grief, I didn't get far off the coast.

I don't really like how the OBCDR maps are set up, 32 maps just for the first leg. Nice detail but hard to follow.

Thanks. With a little luck we might just skate by. We need the snow lines at an average of 6200 feet roughly to get through route 3 but then of course are the dead fall and muddy trails. We need heat, rain, then more heat!

Also, I'll send another link out to the group that will allow you to track our position if you have cellular service, as well as send text messages so we can fine tune the meet-up based on conditions. Oakridge is also a possible meet-up. You could also take Forest Road 21 south from Oakridge to where it intersects our track as well.

Wow! Hot in Central Oregon. That's gotta melt that snow!
I get these heat spikes out East of Bend, no shade till the sun gets below the Cascades. Only last about an hour or so around 4:30-5:00PM.
Was 99* yesterday with a spike of 108* that has to be a record.
My gauge is not in direct sunlight.
I will head up RD4601 in the next couple days and see if its open to Sisters.
If its not on fire...probably Thursday, if anyone wants to go.
Only 86* today...seems nuts I am thinking 86* is not to bad. Feels WAY hot this year, like a microwave in the sun...maybe that's just me.

I am leaving from the Cooze with you guys, I will be along until Friday late evening, where ever that puts us.

I plan on a Coos departure too...will see how long I last, would like to do the whole thing but have a sneaking suspicion that it may be slow going in some spots. Snow, big winds this year/trees down.
My plan is to hit Horsfall campground/day use area. If you guys want to meet there? At the day use area.

Its a 4.5 hour drive over to the coast for me. My thinking is a late 4th of July drive in all the crazy traffic, or maybe miss the rush if I am lucky.
Hopefully the 4th of July peps have headed home and there is a spot to sleep. Wake up, drive on the beach, can we do that? Then meet up with you guys/gals.

I'm good with Oregon National Dunes / Horsfall if everyone else is. I will be rolling in about 5 am on the morning of the 5th and trying for a few hours sleep before we head out.

I'm not sure the dunes extend to the beach... I've been through there twice and never really went west of the entrance.
