Since tomorrow the parts for the 4Runner will be here I cannot promise I will do the next update but I will do my best to get it up on Saturday, I should have time to the rest of the trip hopefully but again, it depends on time. Sorry this update took so long, I hope you enjoyed it. After this one the trip gets much more interesting!

We're running the entire Route 5 from CA to WA. Taking off from New Pine Creek, CA. I think we'll overlap RCastle's run ~north from Seneca onwards.

I went full OCD on the 4runner to get it to run again. All is well!

I did a little rearranging of my engine bay and had to rewire a bunch of stuff.

That and trying to catch up at work and get ready to leave for a week for training its been a busy week so far.

I am sorry, I have had zero time this week. I can tell you some important things about Seneca to Sumpter real quick though.

1. It is rough. Lots of rocky trails and rough going roads.

2. 2 water crossings but they are easy.

3. There will be a road in the burn area that has a road closed sign off to one side, it hasn't been closed since 2016 that I could find.

4. Gas in Unity. Its barely out of the way.

5. Don't go up the atv trail that has the sign saying 54 inches or less, you can make it all the way up but the entrance at the top is too skinny.

Totally understand the time bit . Thanks for the details - a lot of it jives with our experience earlier this year and good to hear that the water crossings are easy now - that was our biggest concern.

Completely forgot to update this. We had an amazing time on the OBDR. We did the entire route 5 starting in SoCal up to Cave Lake and then Walla Walla,Washington. Oregon never seizes to amaze me on the vast beautiful and diverse scenery. I will update with some pictures and report soon too. I was on Instagram as we went along.

OBDR Day 5 - What were we thinking in May?​

Day 5 was the day we'd been looking forward to - the run from Seneca to Granite was what we'd tried to accomplish in May but had been foiled, clearing dozens of down trees and ultimately running into two water crossings that we couldn't ford. Would our trip, three months later bring us redemption?

Yes, yes it would.

Awesome! We had the same problem with the same cows haha. We also didnt explore inside the house and were irritated that someone had busted out the windows.

OBDR Day 7: Out of the Mountains.

... And then, we arrived at the end of the OBDR and the Oregon - Washington border.
A non-descript section of road, where the gravel transitioned to pavement, we couldn't believe we were done.

850 miles of Oregon backroads, less than 50 of which were on pavement, and with relatively few problems.

So... ummm.... it's been 3 years since the trip originally spec'd out in this thread got canceled last minute due to a death.

For any of you guys that are still on the forum and still interested, would anyone like to try this group trip again?

I'd love to. I've still done 0 planning though, but this would be a good excuse to finally order the OBDR maps I've been meaning to get for a few years.

It may be harder for me currently. I've had a few more surgeries since than due to my spine and have been diagnosed with liver disease. I'm working on trying to do another trip before I lose the ability to but its looking like next year(2021) for me

Last flop, hottest year on record, covid-19... my grandma is turning 100 in August, any non normal activities stress her out.
Hope i never live that long!

Also my t4r is consuming antifreeze 2inches on the reservoir in the last 6 months.
Hate to be that guy that breaks down out in the middle of no mans land.

I would be out this year unfortunately but may be game next year. I tried to get another trip in this year but with work and covid I wont be able to swing it.
