Organize a So Cal staff or Master Events Calendar

Ok I am on TTORA and they have an official So Cal section(kind of like we do here) but with an official staff to include
President, Vice President, Trail Leaders, treasurer etc. and each year they put out a calendar of official events and then others are welcome to post up regular trips.

My suggestion is that we post up a calendar that will have an official trip or event for each month. I am not sure we go so far as the whole staff but it is an option. Some trips will be one day and some will be camping weekend with option for people to show up just for the day.

Events are usually in areas that have varying levels of difficulty with a common meeting and ending location. Please answer the following questions and also suggestions on trips you would like to see on the calendar.

1. Annual Events Calendar Yes/No
2. Organize a Staff Yes/No


It looks like I might deploy again late summer early fall but will help plan when I can.

Examples of runs from TTORA. Coral Canyon(San Diego area) Red Rock(near Ridgecrest Trona) Calico, Anza Borrego, Big Bear. That would take care of 5 months. While I think events like Tierra Del Sol, Tin Benders Jamboree and a couple others are good to participate in I don't think making them part of the official calendar is good because of the cost to participate.

I'm very much for the events calendar.

I don't know about the staff quite so much, but if Socal meets become a regular thing, I don't see why not.

I'm down to run any trails that a lightly modified 4WD can do. I have a very long list of things to do now that I have 4WD, so I'm sure I can always go into harder things when my 4Runner is able.

I had not been paying attention to this board much and forgot you were doing the 4wd conversion and had to do a double take when I saw 4wd.

I think instead of a Staff we just appoint some skilled trail leaders and list them for the runs on the Calendar.

However if we are going to have an "Official "run each month than the people leading should be experienced in order to help the new people showing up and the "Official" run/ events should also include a mild or Moderate run as well as something more challenging.

Even if we publish and "Offical" run calendar that will not preclude anyone from posting pop up runs outside of the calendar. The goal of us having a monthly run is to garner a larger participation and expose more members here to the capabilities of their vehicles. Currently there are a handfull of close knit groups that wheel together on a regular basis in the various generations and would like to combine them.

I totally like both ideas! It would be nice to know well in advance when these cool get togethers are coming up! No more last minute runs..

Im down. Anything to get more people out wheeling. We need to have some half challenging runs. cougar buttes/ hammers/ John Bull/ calico

Plus we should try and get a So Cal group to go to the rubicon sometime this summer.

I think official runs and trail leaders are both good ideas. I missed the Rub last year so it would be nice to make it this year with ya Jason.

i know that there are a few people that would probably make it to the con'. We should start the planning for that trip soon. I know its 8-9 months out but I need things to look forward too

I know I'm still new, but I think a little organization would definitely help this "chapter". On another forum, I generally organize all the local meets. Let me know how I can help dudes.

I think having a calendar is a great idea. And perhaps a couple of appointed people that have been around a while and know the trails wouldn't be such a bad idea. I really look forward to seeing what comes out of this!

PIKEMAN - What ever happen to this? I think seriously it would be a great idea to have a big turnout with all types of gens, and different builds, 4x4, 2wd, and it would be nice to have a calendar in advance to know when events turn up.. :ybrick:

Down for this if it happens. Would be great to attend more events. I wouldn't be qualified for trail lead or anything but I'd be happy to help with whatever I can.

4Running Daily organized June's meet and did a great job at it. He pulled folks from fj & tacomas. Would be nice if we could get a calendar that all of us shared.
