I recently purchased a 2004 4Runner with a non-JBL head unit and I am looking to upgrade to a in-dash nav hu. Has anyone had any experience with the manufacturer linked below? I already know it will require additional equipment to allow for the use of the steering wheel controls...

I too am curious about this system. I found it for 599.00 at one place but it Requires the *SNAV-1 external navigation module sold separately. It does say it comes with the Steering Wheel Control Module (SWC-1 Included).

I do know the OEM Toyota Navigation has a seperate module that is located in the rear of the truck, but I don't think these units are the OEM (Eclipse) units. I think these units are just named OEM, my suggestion if you want nav is to choose what is proven vs trying to re-invent the wheel to save some money at the offset just to learn you need to add a lot later.

My choice: Eclipse AVN6620, it can be found on ebay for $700.

It is a plug and play unit (at least for my truck) I took out the stock radio, plugged it in, stuck the gps antenae above the unit and voila 30mins later a working unit. It lets you use steering wheel controls without any extra wiring & or parts and needs no new wiring harness to splice in.

It does however not keep (if you have it) the oem line input in the center console. (If someone knows how to make that work please tell me).

Everyone will have there own input into what unit is best, I've used every manufacturer now (Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Eclipse) and found each to be very good, it's really to me just which one has the features you want. I really like the simplified wiring of the Eclipse unit there is not a lot of space behind our dashes for a lot of extra wiring or additional pieces.

The 4Runner had several different navigation versions. The 2003 and early 2004s with a 10-speaker JBL Synthesis navigation are two piece, they don't have the backup camera. The later 2004s and 2005 with a backup camera are all in one single unit systems. 2006+ are also single units with Bluetooth and 4-disc changer.

Because your 4Runner does not have the JBL system, you need the analog navigation system, aka Camry nav, which is no longer available. As suggested, it would be easier to get an Eclipse system that would be trully plug and play.

FYI, OEMValue.com has the digital nav, aka Solara nav, available.

Well you would need an additonal unit to make the steering wheel controls work with any other radio than Eclipse, so in reality you will need a addional unit either way you go.

Eclipse - Need a parrot for bluetooth.

Anyone else - need a pac-xxx to retain steering wheel controls

No one unit has everything you need contained in the head unit itself, even factory nav has several units. It is a necessary evil.

The steering wheel interface is pretty simple to install and is small so you don't have to find room to put it. It's an additional $80 retail. If you get the Kenwood DNX8120 it has bluetooth and nav built in.

Is there a way to add bluetooth for those who do have the JBL synthesis HU? I have an '06 w/ JBL 10-speaker 6-disc (no nav), and am looking for an OEM bluetooth kit.
