Ouachita National Forest 3/02

This is kind of last minute but wanted to throw it out there. My son and I along with @kmayo are going to scout some trails in the Ouachita National Forest. We will most likely be entering the forest around Lake Winona Rd off of Hwy 9 north. I'm somewhat familiar with this area but wanted to check out some of the random trails I haven't been on in the past and the condition of those I do know.

This will more or less be a day away from asphalt. :biggrin2: Stock Runner should have no problems but A/T tires will make life easier.

Just wanted to add that I will have an extra seat open and that if you bring you own rig a CB would be very helpful! I dont know about everyone else but i need to get some dirt in my life :eyebrows:

It was a great day, cold and sunny. I have a few pics to share but didn't spend much time behind the camera. The recent winter storms have taken their toll on the smaller trees and many are laying across the trails. We were able to clear many of those that blocked the trails.

The spillway at Lake Winona had a little flow but wasn't impassable.

We spent 30 minutes crossing this creek several times on the trail. I noticed this rock cluster which appears to have been pushed during some pretty serious water flow.

This was pretty typical of the trails for the day.

The firestick hung up on a limb and slapped the Runner. Took a little damage from the antenna. Looks like I'll be rethinking the mount I have.

This is what we dealt with most of the day.

As you can see the trails were tight due to the trees leaning.

I have a couple buddies that we do this similar trip annually in December. We were able to cross over the Winona spillway this most recent trip. I couldn't take my runner then cus it had a wheel bearing out but I had fun riding none the less. Glad yall had fun, looks like some trail trimming is in order!

ARKRWLR we need to plan a trip to the Ouachitas or the Ozarks before it gets to warm to enjoy it. :thumb:

We enjoyed it but anytime on the trails is better than sitting at home. I put my son behind the drivers seat for several hours so he really enjoyed it. :driving:

I'm just now seeing this as well, I need to check more often. Looks like you guys had fun. I've been around Lake Winona purposefully looking for trails and have never found actual trails like that, only the well-maintained forest roads. Where was that at exactly?

Thanks! I was wandering around more on the north side of the lake last time, but next time I'll check out the south side.
