I love this build! I would really like to see how you do the rear end with the poly sheeting, I'm thinking about doing that in my 4runner. On a side-note I am currently studying global community science at California Baptist University and feel called to cross cultural agricultural missions in the future.

Thank you! As for the back poly, it shouldn't be super hard. I don't like all the OEM plastic panels and it's just gonna break. I may try to put some sort of lockable storage to keep things safe. Like this, but water tight...
As for your major that sounds spot on as for what we're doing. Seems to be a ever growing trend in missions. You can follow us on FB and see how we grow as we're still relatively in our early stages.

The locking storage is a great idea, I'll have to look into that. Storage is an issue for me because of my soft top. I've liked your page on FB and am looking forward to watching your progress there as well as on your runner.

Just ordered front bumper frame weld-on support and Tuffy console! Likely ordering Softopper tomorrow
Thinking about going with a Grant steering wheel and anti theft removal kit. Steering wheel is 13". Is that a good size, any thoughts, experiences? Thanks!

The 4Runner is 15" if I recall, and the steering feels a bit slow to me. The 'Cuda steering is also a bit slow by modern standards.
I'd rather be whipping around a smaller wheel to be honest. You only really need the leverage if you lack power steering.
As far as size goes, I'm 5'11" and the 15" wheel in the 4Runner feels a bit big to me, even with the tilt column up a bit. Not sure how the 13" would LOOK in the 4Runner, but I would assume it would feel just fine.
I've actually been looking at the Nardi wheels a lot of classic Toyota guys like to put in their rides. They even have silly horn buttons with the cruise control buttons on them.
I thought about the column disconnect thing for the 'Cuda, but decided against it. I live in a fairly low crime area, so I didn't sweat it much. You have to think about where you'd stow that wheel every time you pop it off.

Thanks for the feedback flagbasher! Maybe I'll go up one to the 14" if they make one in the style I want. Yes it's currently 15". Security can be an issue where we'll live. Mostly I would take it off in higher crime areas or if it's put away for the night. Regardless I still wanna change the wheel for various reasons. Hadn't seen the Nardi wheels, just went to this cause several others had already. Thanks again.

I just talked with Can-Back about their soft top. They informed me they wouldn't have one for the 4Runner till next spring at the earliest!!! Guess I'm going with Softopper.

If there's a particular Grant you like a lot, grab it now.
I started my 'Cuda build in 2007, picked out a wheel I wanted, but it was gone by the time I needed to buy it. I picked another similar wheel (that I liked a bit less) in 2010 or 2011, and that 2nd choice wheel is already not made anymore, either.
I believe some of their basic/classic stuff stays around, but the more unique/new wheels tend to come and go.
I might go for a custom wheel in the 4Runner if I can find one on the cheap. I'm already going to have enough dumped into gray plastic and a manual trans to think dropping full price on a custom wheel is worth it right now. Who knows, maybe I'll cave.
