Well I bought a another '87 4Runner! This will be the new Pepe and I'll sell the old one once I've got whatever I want off of it. I don't pick it up for about 2 weeks. Bought it from a guy who a year ago bought it from the original owner an 80+ year old man. Has an original 138,000 miles and a completely rebuilt transmission that cost the PO $2,700! The 22RE runs AWESOME and the interior is in great shape. I'm told the top has never been removed either.

Thanks! The story goes the old man only used it at his lake house to basically move jet skies around. He says it spent most of its time in the boat house barn. It still has the original radio, OEM tools and all the headrests among other things! Very excited and feel like I got a good deal.

Here's a few to get started.

So I think the fuel pump is going out cause it started to run rough 45min into my drive home from buying it. Gonna drop the tank and check. I'd love everyone's thoughts overall.

Toyota OEM fuel pump at cost is $330ish! Ebay has some "OEM" ones for $125ish. Any recommendations or experience?

Will lack of back pressure be bad for the 22re? Thinking stock manifold, no cat & flow through muffler. Thoughts?

Terry87 on Yotatech has a write up on the fuel pumps he buys from eBay for (I think) about $40.
He has rebuilt 4 or 5 22RE 4Runners and pickups. You can check there.

I'm enjoying your thread but you need to hit "return" after each picture so they don't post next to each other.
It ends up with the writing so wide you have to scroll to read. The last page of this thread is so wide right now it would not let me reply.

Lack of back pressure won't hurt a thing. Cut that cat off of there and go sell it! I got $140 for mine from a scrap metal guy! A straight through muffler might be a little loud and sound like a ricer with no cat in there, I would suggest a pretty big muffler to keep the sound down!

The rig looks good! Pretty clean for it's age! Guess the back window got busted out?

It will drive perfectly fine and then sputter like it's not getting fuel. So I'm thinking fuel pump, gunk in tank or filter or all of the above.

Don't want a ricer sounds so agree with the large muffler.

Back window is fine, but the motor was out and the PO thought this was easier.

Ok so I got the tires mounted finally, KM2 31x10.5x15. The wife and I decided to go with the OEM chrome rims vs grey steelies. I first had the old tires removed and then I did a cleaning of the inside and anywhere the tires will touch.

Now they are mounted and I'll do a complete clean one rim at a time. I've decided to do a lift so I'm hoping to order and install that soon.
