Our '87 4R SR5 Honduras Coffee/Missions Rig Build...

Ok so the vents made a huge difference. 75% I can now hold my hand on, but above the exhaust is still super hot. What's the solution? Ceramic coated headers? I'm not excited to spend that kind of money. Advice?
 
Ok so we've sold our house and we're scheduled to move to Honduras in January. As we plan our budget we've discovered it may cost upwards of $10k to ship both our cars to HND, so we may just sell them and buy a Hilux in HND.

My question for y'all is, how much do you think I can get for my 4R if we go with the sell option?

Why not just drive it there? I know its a hassle and will probably take several days to get there, but you could at least pack a bunch of stuff in the vehicle(s), thus cutting down on shipping some of your belongings.

Maybe you can get in touch with Clay Croft or one of the other members from Expedition Overland via Facebook or through their website, they just did a trip south and documented everything necessary to travel through Central America.

I doubt it will cost you nothing close to 10 grand to drive it, and that's even staying in the best places possible and filling up with premium the whole way! I'd say maybe 3 grand would get you there.

Seems like such a waste after all the hard work and money you put into your 4runner over the past few years, and you'll end up having to do the whole thing over with a new vehicle, not to mention pay a lot more for duties and shipping to the Honduras.
 
I totally hear you and I hate to "waste" what I've done. However we (me and my wife) feel like time and money have been keeping us from getting to Honduras for approx 5 years now. This is why we have been cutting our losses so to speak for the last several months and doing whatever it takes to get to Honduras as fast as possible.

Right now I'm trying to get a realistic idea of what the 4R is really worth. I know the values are ALL over the board. I'm thinking upwards of 8k and 6k on the lower end. I'd be keeping the winch, light bar and some other small things that could go on the Hilux in HND.
 
Ok the 4R is for sale, $6k cash. I'll post an official listing soon. I am a little bummed, but excited as well about getting a diesel Hilux or a 70 series diesel LC assuming it sells.

Awesome to hear man! I have been lurking here for a while watching the progress of your ride. I was kinda bummed to hear you were gonna sell it.

(even though I was debating hitting you up to see if you wanted to part some of it out since I am a DFW resident as well)

I'm not opposed to rock climbing, but it isn't one of my hobbies. I'm down for a meet up. I would actually like to take my truck wheeling somewhere, but I don't know where to go around here. It would be cool to see your truck before you head out to Honduras.
