Outside temp display only goes down to -30C

Hello,

Does anyone else's outside temperature displays go colder than -30?
Unfortunately I think mine taps out there and does not display any colder. Not sure if its something broken with mine that I can fix or I just have to figure out another method.

After - 30 do you really want to know how cold it is? That is just damn cold.

If you take a piss when it's that cold, is it frozen before it hits the ground?

I think it freezes at -30 haha. Have you tried warming it up?

On an honest note. I wouldn't be surprised if that's just the lower limit for the sensor.

Since very very very few places in US (excluding Alaska) ever see -30....I suspect that the sensor just isn't sensitive enough to record anything lower.

Even here in the North East...You have to get to near the Canada border to see those temps. And even then...it's very very rare.

Yeah, I posted about that a while back in the 4th gen secrets thread, it bottoms out at -23°F for me (same as -30°C). Toyota probably figures no one would want to drive when it is colder than that.

You guys have some damn cold temps up there. Landed in Edmonton late one night and it was -41C. The next morning when we took off it warmed up to -25C. I had almost every piece of clothing on that was in my travel bag. That has to be hard on vehicles or anything else outside.

More than 10 years ago I was riding a Hyundai Galloper II (MMC Pajero replica) one winter night and it showed -30C (-22F) sometimes but more often it showed two letters- ET.

My guess was that it meant Extreme Temperature

Anything below 0 degrees F (-17 degrees C) is just plain cold and hard on anything, machine or human.

We did have a new years eve walk home from the bars once at -35F and my jacket zipper was broken. not a super fun time.

I can't believe anyone would willingly live in a place colder than what I live in. I sat outside this year deer hunting in single digit temps and it wasn't fun. Anything 0 F or below and I try to avoid going outside.

Lowest I've seen the 4Runners temp go this winter is -2 F, unfortunately next week it will get colder than that.

That's pretty cool. Coldest temps I have experience with is single digit, being a southernor and all.

I've worked outside in temperatures down to -50°F (-46°C), although only for short periods and with a warm truck nearby (and thankfully no wind). Honestly, anything below -30°F feels about the same to me since there is so little moisture in the air at that point.

Here I am working at -40°F, I have another big parka to go over the top of the one I'm wearing (in case the truck breaks down or I get stuck in a blizzard), but I've never needed to use it.

Wow, -30 is some serious cold weather. I was at the North Pole (under the polar ice cap) and I don't think it was that cold...

It only goes to -30 then it sets a code and then the only reset is to move to a warmer place.

Thanks for all those responses guys. It's been bloody cold up here lately. The 4runner started in -40C absolute yesterday. It didn't want to but it did. Hate starting engines that cold but I had to be on the highway. At -40 the temperature display actually just displays "--" for anyone curious. At about -35 it then displays -30. Nice to be back in calgary where it is a barmy -6C

What oil are you using and for how long did your runner stay at that temperature?

As long as I can remember the coldest temperature here was -38C at night.
