1999 4runner SR5 4WD 3.4L V6
253k miles and running strong. All of the below happens in 2WD AND 4WD. Lately i have purposedly left it in 2WD only. 200 miles of driving and I have gear oil dripping on the ground from my engine bay.
Ever since i flushed my front differential back in October (routine maintenance), i have had an issue with the vent tube leaking gear oil out the top.
To rule out some factors, i have done a drain and flush 2 times since then to ensure that i have not overfilled it. I am NOT filling to the fill hole. I am draining 100% of the gear oil and then measuring out the correct amount in graduated cylinder per the FSM and pouring it in via funnel.
A new vent hose was installed as well. The gear oil comes out the top of those located in the engine bay.
Has anyone experienced this before? Anyone know what would be causing this? The front axle seals are all good. No leaks what so ever.
