Overhead console/sunglass holder

Has anyone done or seen a swapped or modded overhead console?

OEM one has really only room for one pair of shades. I recently modded mine to hold my dash cam. Now that I have a kid, I wanted one of those "Conversation Mirrors".

Anyone running something cool overhead? What fits nicely?

I'm interested in this as well... In my '98 it's hardly big enough to hold a business card, let alone sunglasses.

not sure about the pre-facelift 3rd gens, but I can vouch for 00-02 at least. The "sunglasses" holder is actually designed for a garage door opener, NOT sunglasses. But, we all use it for sunglasses likely.

There are 3 various sized nipples that you can attach to little dowels in the holder, and throw your garage door remote in there. The idea is that if you push up on the holder, the nipple hanging down will press the button on your remote.

All that said, my garage door opener clips on the passenger side, my backup spare sunnies go in the overhead "holder", and my daily sunnies dangle from a headband from an ex-gf hanging on the rearview

Agreed the center thing is designed for a garage door opener, sort of odd since on the 00-02 limiteds they added the 3 garage door opener buttons on the left of the driver visor.... for old and new types i guess.... :cowboy:

I'm aware of the Field Motor from the Hilux Surf, the scangauge, and one feature of the "sunglass holder" is for a garage door opener. Just seeing if there was someone out there that replaced the entire console with one from an entirely different vehicle that has different features than the stock ones. I seen some with conversation mirrors, and maybe Bluetooth mics or something cool. The mods mentioned above are no doubt cool and useful mods.

My 00 doesn't have the GDO buttons on its visor.
