Overheating! Help please...

I have a 1995 Toyota 4runner 3.0. the water pump, t-stat, timing belt, plugs, wires were replaced last week. The radiator is fairly new too. The problem is, it can idle for an hour and stay at normal operating temp. I drive it for ten minutes and it starts to overheat. I've noticed that I can put it in neutral and rev to 4000 rpms while on the road and the temp gauge goes right back to normal. The head gasket was replaced about 2 years ago. I'm not getting any white smoke or loosing any coolant.

The check engine light is on due to a faulty "knock sensor" which does make it run rough, but I don't think that has anything to do with the overheating.

Is all the air out of your coolant? Had that happen once.

yeah try burping the system. did you replace the thermostat when you replaced the radiator? what brand did you use if so? did you get the jiggle valve lined up in the right orientation?

also, this is kind of the wrong place to post this. This is the 3rd gen section, but this problem can likely still be addressed here.

It only takes a few seconds to bring the temp down. I drove it yesterday to check again and itseems that once it gets hot from driving, it keeps creeping back even at idle too now.
I've noticed that the upper rad hose expands and contracts when reving the engine also. It almost seems like some sort of blockage, but it sems like it would run hot at idle all the time if this was the case.

again while we can sort of help you as overheating is not just limited to one type of vehicle or truck, and there can be only so many things that can cause it, the classic forum section is where the 2nd gen (90-95) 4runners are addressed. you will probably find better and faster help there with your specific needs or issue. the 3.slow and the 3.4 motors are totally different(other than both being toyota V6s). you might want to get both of your rad hoses changed, the one should not swell like that. you could possibly have a blockage in the radiator too, how long has it been sense you replaced it? how about the t-stat? it could be stuck... good luck and merry christmas
