Paint chip protection laminate

I have an 01 SR5 Sport with the large color match flares and the rear flares have the clear laminated stick on chip protectors stuck on the leading edge as well as small pieces on the body right near the front bottom of the flare. Mine are original and have taken their abuse over the years and with the many tiny pinholes and chips in the laminate, dust and dirt has gotten behind it. I'm wondering if any of you have had the same issue and tried to go about fixing it. I tried to put touch up paint on the spots, but as I expected, it looked like crap and I cleaned it back off. It looks better looking like it's done its job than looking like mismatched paint blotted around on it. So I was wondering if anyone has actually tried to remove them. They're stuck on extremely well, so I don't know if it's opening a can of worms such as looking worse when removed, or possibly removing the paint underneath right along with it.

I began removing mine the other day because they had the same issue. Because they were cracked it was taking a little while peeling it off piece by piece, so I gave up after 5 minutes since that wasn't my current task. But the paint under it was perfect and it peels off easy. The only thing I found to replace it comes in a roll and would have to be cut to fit.

Awesome man, I appreciate you letting me know. I was getting close to the point where I was going to try peeling it off and deal with the consequences if it all went to crap, but I'm a little less hesitant if I know the odds aren't bad that the paint will be good underneath. Thanks again!
