Paint Chipping on stock roof rack.

Well my paint is chipping along the sides of my roof rack. (stock) it looks bad up close. What is there that I could do?
If it matters, its a 1997.

remove it, strip it, repaint it. probably not what you wanted to hear but other than that, anything else is just a temporary fix.

Is it aluminum?

I don't even know what mine is made out of. But if it's aluminum, then at least it won't rust. Otherwise, take care of it if it has steel rails, or rust will eventually ruin it.

My 2001 is having the same problems. The dealer isn't of any help- I think they just put a poorly designed roof rack on the 3rd gens. Does your truck stay outside in the sun?

I am considering removing the rack, strippping or sanding the plastic, and repainting with Krylon Fusion Plastic paint. The only other option I see is paying 180 bucks for a new rack.

If you hear of a good paint or a place to get cheap replacement racks, please let me know.
