Paint Chips Damage in front of Rear Wheel

Is this common to have small scratches and paint chips on the rear door in front of the rear tire? I recently went on a 40 mile off-road trail and after cleaning up the 4Runner the next day, i noticed all this paint damage there. I assume its from rocks and debris, i havent seen it before and I certainly dont want to the area of affect to grow each time I go off-roading.

Anyone else have a similar issue and if so, what was dont to resolve it?

I have a few chips on the rear plastic fender flair but nothing on the door itself. Directly above the plastic film that comes on the vehicle. I just used a small touch up brush and it's no longer noticeable.
Makes sense now why the plastic film is installed where it is.

I noticed the same paint chips after my first outing. I now have a set of BudBuilt bump out sliders with full tread plate. The bottoms of the sliders are EXTREMELY chipped but my doors no longer get chips.

I have a few. Took me a bit to figure out what was happening. Pretty common, at least for me, driving fast on gravely roads, my sliders and the outside/bottoms of the frame peppered with chips. I have been spending a couple hours before each winter with a can of rustoleum just to keep the road salt corrosion at bay.

I can't imagine what it would be like if you didn't have a slider/running board, well i can and it would be bad living in a salt belt.

This is why I have running boards. The bottom of the 4runner gets what looks like sand blasting. My orange xreas shocks are white in the front now after blasting the orange paint off. My running board mount brackets were black and are now bare metal. If you do this a lot your back wheels will also get pitted from the stones hitting them. The only way to avoid it is to go slower. If you do not have rear mud flaps the lower painted section behind the rear wheels also gets blasted.

I notice this also. Have the Toyota mud flaps and also the sliders. The chips have just about quit altogether since installing those. Should have had them on from day one I suppose.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I know what is the next thing to buy for my 4Runner...SLIDERS there was some high speed fire roads and it definitely caused a bunch of paint damage.
