Paint code by VIN?

Ran a search on topic with no success, got into cyber web search run around? Faded spot in the center of the hood, thought I would pick up a quart of Urethane paint, hardener and reducer, not sure where the paint code is located on the VIN?

Sorry, I will deny if asked posting this question. In reviewing the VIN tag I came to notice the letter C and 179 I believe is 'Dark Grey Metallic'.

179 is your paint code. The 'C/TR' is your paint color and interior trim code.

Knowing that 1G3 is magnetic grey I think we are safe to say you are right. I know 2 is black 3 is red, blue is 8, green is 6 I believe.

Don't have a clue when it comes to determining different characteristics of automotive paint: Seem to recall reading Acrylic Urethane is preferred over Acrylic Enamel and Acrylic Lacquer? Then there's Urethane basecoat??? Intend calling source if purchase online, or shop thru local sources and have them explain?
