Has anyone here ever taken their Runner in for some new paint? I'd love to see some pictures of what some members have done. How much does it usually cost to do a simple one color paint job?

Yes. A few years ago my '94 SR5 went in for a repaint of original color. Pic links here.

Oh lawdy that is nice looking. I'm super jelly man.
I took mine into our Maaco for paint in February. I got their 2nd to highest level paint job for "commercial pricing" through the company I worked for. The paint itself was under $500 but I also had two large dent's removed and they charged me extra to "restore" the surface on the hood and the roof (the clear was gone and there was a bit of surface rust. Finally they charged me $100 to sand and paint the fiberglass top. All in all around $800 out the door.
It wasn't a perfect job but for the money I can't complain. It really looks good and has held up well so far. Lots of horror stories with Maaco but they vary a lot from location to location. Would not hesitate to do it again.

Thanks! Not sure if the color was a perfect factory match but it looks good to me.
Honestly I'm not sure what the service would've cost retail, they told me they were giving me a hell of a deal but of course they would say that. They were running some promotions at the time that seemed pretty good and my deal was still better. The paint I got was not a typical $500 Maaco job. It was Polyurethane paint, with a seperate clearcoat. Came with a 5yr warranty.

It honestly looks good but I was told by a couple of folks from Maaco to expect a 5-year life on more of their low-end jobs.
So it looks great now but will probably start dying on you in February 2020... if you still have her.
Which honestly is not a bad deal, especially if you can get it for another $800 at that time!

Maaco is just about the only option for cheap paint jobs these days. I think there's a chain in CA but I can't remember the name that does cheap paint too. Economy Paint? Each Maaco is independently owned and some/many are bad.
I always have to give my experience with Maaco paint. I had my mother's '90 Honda painted the factory gray in about 1994. The factory paint in those cars had bad clear coat peel and you can still see them around. I sold the car to the teenager across the street in 1996 and he drove it for over 10 years (!). I saw it through the years and the paint did not fade or peel. The paint looked way better than the factory Hondas the same color. He totaled it so it's not around anymore.
If you can paint yourself or you have a guy who does it on the side, great. Most body shops will push your vehicle to the side while they do insurance jobs that pay better. I have asked lots of people at the car shows for painters and they all want upwards of $3k to paint and it would take months. Maaco is the only choice where I live.
The people who complain about peeling are the guys who did not bother to wash or dewax their cars. The place does not do great prep. I would dewax and sand to 400 grit before taking it there and take off lights, bumpers, etc. in their parking lot.

I was a painter back in the UK before I moved to Australia .
If I had a 4runner to paint back in the UK, full job properly done, as in striped to a shell and painted I would charge about £6,000 all in. Materials and labour.
If it was just a quick job, same colour. Outside paint only maybe around £2500 - £3,000

Yeah, I agree. The prep wasn't too bad on mine, they got some overspray on the chassis and a little bit on some of the window seals. They did the chassis with some underbody coating when I pointed out the overspray to them.
On a vehicle I initially spent $3.5k on I just couldn't see spending $1500-$2k on a paint job not even including all the body work maaco did. The two big dents they fixed are completely unnoticeable now.
To be perfectly honest, some of the Maaco stuff I've seen come out of this location is better quality than some of the jobs that come out of out own "factory certified" body shops.
On a vehicle I initially spent $3.5k on I just couldn't see spending $1500-$2k on a paint job not even including all the body work maaco did. The two big dents they fixed are completely unnoticeable now.

Need some custom-stock graphics for that beast now! Metallic gold and black-colored stock stripes would look awesome with that color! I think my graphics would fit that 4 runner perfectly!

I'm in the same boat for paint, the PO on of my rig decided to rattle can the rig black.. over a factory white 
oh the travesty.
However mines pretty much a crawler and going to get bumped around so I'm not to worried about it, however I would like it to look a bit nicer. I came across Monstaliner and have seen lots of crawler guys going this route... Monstaliner do-it-yourself roll-on truck bed liner outperforms Herculiner Bed Liner, Duplicolor and Rustoleum Road Warrior
Can be done in the driveway for a few hundred bucks and they now have a good selection of colors.
This is my canvas...

Nice rig! My buddy has a 4 runner done completely in bedliner, best thing is you can just wash it with a broom and dish soap, and if you really want it looking good, squirt it down with some armor-all!
