Paint Protection, Suntek Ultra PPF?? worth it?

I have a friend with a tint shop that has done all of our cars. He told me he could do the front of the hood, bumper, mirrors, and fenders for $700, and replace the edge guards on the passenger doors... so basically the whole front.

My husband wants to just get the bug/rock deflector and call it a day, but i really hate the way it looks, and I was just going to get the paint protection on the hood for $100.

Wondering if at that point I should just protect the whole front? My bmw had some pretty bad rock dings in the hood from freeway driving in vegas, but I also know this is an off-road car and is going to get some marks.

I may be biased, because I detail cars on the side, but I think it’s worth it to do as much as possible.

Manufacturers use as little paint/clear coat as possible and it is laid on incredibly thin. That and a good quality repaint is really expensive.

Do the headlights also if you are.

I think protecting the whole front for 700 is very good. I have access to a ppf installer and can’t get it done for cheaper than that with family discount.

thanks both! I think I will just talk Hubby into it. The installer is a friend who we have used for a long time before he even had a shop, and i have done a lot of design work for him (logo, business branding, etc) so hes giving us a good deal

Ppf isn’t just for rock chips. It also protects the paint from car wash brushes too. The 5th gen has ALOT of sharp angles on the front that can wear down pretty quick if you use a car wash with brushes.

I would definitely have the film installed on the 4Runner.

As others have said, it’s definitely worth it. Especially at $700, but maybe see if they can do Xpel, as it tends to be a little higher quality than Suntek. I would also try to have the headlights, fog lights, and a-pillars done as well. These trucks have a lot of very steep vertical angles just asking to get nicked.

Those hood deflectors are awful. Since you are in LV, you also have a lot of sand to contend with

Yes, do the whole front - and then some. I do the bumpers, part of hood/matching part of fenders, strip above windshield, mirror caps, door cups, behind wheel wells, rear bumper, headlights and taillights.

Yep. As much as possible. Your paint will thank you - but - prep is vital and it isn't a DIY job.

XPEL is the way to go! Suntek is known to be a little thinner and have weaker adhesive so it could lift up more often. I follow Engineering Explained and he uses XPEL too

It's not a matter of if but when you'll get a gnarly rock chip in the paint. Those bug/rock deflectors are absolutely useless and in some cases end up doing damage to the paint anyways due to how they're installed. $700 is a good deal for front end protection, you should def take advantage.

I agree w/ others in recommending Xpel. I got my front covered in Xpel and from time to time notice very minuscule marks in the film from rocks/debris. Fortunately the Xpel film is self-healing. w/o the coverage, my front end would be peppered in rock chips of various sizes and it would drive me batshit otherwise.

I have xpel on mine and it was more then $700. From what I've heard xpel is better and prob why it was more money. Make sure you look at there cars done by the rep.

I’m with the others, I have and vote for Xpel PPF. My last runner had Suntek and it was ok but was thinner and lifted on a couple corners
