Well I did a tire rotation few weeks ago and decided to inspect my front calipers since I had both the front ones replaced in the past. Sure enough the drivers side which was replaced two years ago was frozen and the passenger side which was done last September was not too far behind.
Called the dealership and made an appointment so they could replace the front drivers side. They inspected all the brakes and told me the front passenger side is not in very good shape either(i.e almost frozen) and they will replace that too. My extended warranty covered both including the front passenger side wheel bearing since I was concerned about a humming noise in that area. That too replaced under warranty. My front rotors were in need of replacement, but pads still had a lot of life left so I only paid for two new front rotors which was less than $200 total.
Brakes feel like new again. Humming noise gone and the car is once again quiet. However, on each ocassion when the dealership replaced the calipers, the replacement corroded within a few months and they told me they used the OEM Toyota calipers. When compared with the 4 to 5 year old ones that come off the car, the replacement sure doesn't seem like the same quality steel as the original ones they built the with. Has anyone else experienced this?? Anwyay I decided to paint them the next day and uploaded some pics. Hopefully they will last a while before they need replacement again. No
