Painted lower valance?

Yeah, you are right, it is a fake skid plate and the 4 runner and the Tacoma are exactly the same. They just added the texture and used the same color as the skid plate on the bumper to make it look like that. I am glad there are killer members like you that can see that. Painting fake skid plates adds some serious value to your 4 runner. I mean chics really dig that. Someone may even mistake it for a Tacoma. Totally killer. Maybe your dad can buy you some spray paint when he gets home because you aren't old enough to buy it nor have money to do so. It's killer.

I am going to run out and paint mine. Oh wait, it is already painted because that is what they did in 03 from the factory. Maybe I will go plasti-dip my steering wheel instead.

oh ****..whos gonna break out the upper case letters first??

I used rubberized undercoating on my front valance. Black on my red 4Runner looks awesome.

And to clarify; that "Fake Skid" has absolutely NO protective traits in it.... I've already gone through 2.. One was a chunk of ice, one was a dumb blonde in a Camry who ran a stop sign..

Lol no, my wife and I make more than enough to afford spray paint. Actually we are sooooo well off we can buy the gold AND silver spray paint. Oh and both our cars are much newer than 2003's like the one you have.

Not sure what your problem is since you started this argument, you had the choice to click on this thread about a simple mod or not, then you chose to be a d!ck about it.....maybe someone didn't want to upsize their fries when they pulled up to your drive thru at work today? Anyway, glad you could come in to voice your valued opinion.

I am sorry as well. I should have known that you might be so sensitive to my observation of your killer idea of painting your fake skid plate back to look like a fake skid plate that looks nothing like the bumper of a Tacoma. Please accept a tissue on my behalf.

I am also super impressed that your 4 runner is a whole 3 years newer than mine. That is impressive. It clearly shows that you are wealthy. Had I not bought mine in 03 there is no way on earth I could have bought one 3 years later. Then you are going to add in your high end custom paint job, wow! That puts it way out of my pay grade.

You know what might be another killer idea? Get this. On the rear bumper, you can paint that as well! Yeah that is right, I know you don't have any old 03s in your hood, but in addition to painting a fake skid plate on the front, they did the same thing on the back!!! Just imagine if you painted that on yours as well. I think the Lexus LX 570 had one. Maybe someone will think you are driving a Lexus. That would be badass!!!

Please accept my apology.

Lol apology accepted sungod. Can you suggest me an establishment in which I could procure myself some Lexus and lx 570 badges as well?

Why don't just give it a rest and move along to another thread

Yes I do. That is why it is a fake skid plate. Learn your 4 runner history and you might get it. See this picture of a 3rd gen? That is a real skid plate.

Now see the 4th gen? That is not a real skid plate. Just textured and painted to look like it. Understand now? Killer Huh?

For the record this "skid plate" on the 3rd gen is hardly a skid plate. It might look like one but they are just for looks. You hit anything with that and it will crumple like a tin can

Are you out of your mind? If I did that then yours would look like mine (less the painted fake skid plate) and that isn't about to happen. I have a reputation to maintain.

I agree. I think the painted plastic provided about as much protection.

Oh, you are maintaing your reputation just fine

Since you're a 4Runner historian, I assume you're aware that all 3rd gens did not come with that "real skid plate," (which I'm certain is many, many times more protective than the "painted fake skid") so I'm not going to address that further.

But did you notice the part of the 4runner in the picture you posted that is under the green is black, and the center protrudes. That is essentially what these members are suggesting they would like black on their 4th gens as well.

btw, those of us "in the know" refer to that black portion (beneath the bumper in the picture you posted) as a "valance." Many vehicles come with that as a standard feature, and typically the center protrudes or is recessed from the bumper and sides.

Hey.... I resent that comment. I work in a fast food restaurant. But I also own my own businesses and bought my 2005 with my own cash at 16 1/2 yrs old.

I hear you. I have a friend who owns an old Samuri and calls it a jeep. Looks to me and Toyota as well to be part of the bumper cover, but you can call it by any technical term you want.

To me it looks like Toyota tried to create the illusion of a skid plate. Which is what I was referring to in my original post that seemed to cause a little excitement.

I agree. Sometimes I get my technical terms mixed up. Sometimes I would just somebody might be an assbag when in reality the are just a D-bag......

I did I search and couldn't find anything but Just curious how it looks on a White 4th Gen? I did it to my Tacoma and it looked killer!

post em if ya got em!?

Aaaaanyway, I think you should do it. I think it looks really good on all the colors......:art:
