Painting black the silver bumper area

Hey,

I can't find a thread where someone painted the silver bumper on a TRD OFP. I want to the do the same. What process did you use and what product? Plastidip?

Or should I have someone do a wrap on this area?

Sorry on the title I meant to say "Painting the silver area on bumper black"

Lots of threads about his but I’ll save you some time and headache. Krylon spray paint for plastics will work. Plastidip will work. Neither will last. Rocks and stuff will chip the paint. I’ve tried both. I ended up buying the TRD Pro black valance and it’s perfect.

Personally I wouldn't do plastidip. Just get some SEM (SEM-39143). It matches perfectly to the trim OEM sheen. You can get a can off Amazon for ~$10-15.
I think someone had a thread on here awhile back, but I just basically masked off the area using painters tape and a deck of cards to get clean lines. Then used some plastic sheeting to cover any overspray. Couple light coats and it was done. Still looks factory new ~2.5 years later.

Just search for "paint valance". Lotta folks either do SEM, plastidip, or bedliner.

I was contemplating wrapping mine but was told painting it would be much better.

Ill probably just get a C4 bull bar at some point.

I painted the chrome bar in front already and that was a lot of work... in prep at least.

I installed front and rear valances (coming from an sr5). I sanded with 400 grit, cleaned and then applied 5-6 coats. Link below to the paint I used.

after doing research

I just did this upgrade last week..
It took me a while to figure the best strategy for me.
I was fully on-board with painting, but I realized paint will probably come off after some hard trails.
Then I focused on wrapping... however, wrapping is really expensive.. a little better than paint for durability but not much in my opinion.

So I ended up buying a brand new black TRD bumper valance (for off road durability) and then wrapping the bumper section behind / above the bumper valance and below the lower grill. It turned out great and I think it'll be pretty durable on the trails.

Had mine wrapped in a satin(not flat) black front and back. Matches the pro grill perfect

I would paint. I wrapped mine myself after receiving $200+ quotes. I am happy with it but if I were to do again I would paint. Just took a lot of time. But It's been on for almost a year now and it's really held up.
Like said above YouTube it. Pretty simple to take off and if you are going to paint I would take it off. I wouldn't want to risk getting anything on the 4Runner.
