Painting my scoop and faded fender flares

So my paint on the hood scoop was starting to oxidize so I finally got around to painting it and am going with Duplicolor bumper coating for my flares and the results are looking good so far. I also used a 2 light coats of adhesion promoter before I applied the coating.

Here's the front flaps and am just starting the flares themselves.

Looks pretty good i like the black accent for the scoop adds a little bit of umph to it. Nice work!

What kind of prep did you do on your flares to paint them? My flares are faded and need some tlc so i plan to do them soon. Thanks for any help.

Honestly.....the flaps look great....and the prep work seems to have given you a nice finish....but I would have tried to color match the hood scoop....just my 2 cents...so take it for what it worth.....

I did want to color match the scoop but I went to several different auto/paint places and couldn't find IJM in a spray can but did find nearly every other Toyota color in a can plus I was on a budget (the truck needs some other refreshening and some new parts) and the scoop could've come out better but it's way better than it was.

Regarding the flare prep I first washed the flares with dish soap,dried and then used Duplicolor Prep Spray and wiped them down really good,a couple of coats of ashesion promoter and finally 3 coats of the bumper coating and so far the results are looking very positive. The only real question is longevity.

So far both flaps and one flare,hopefully will be abe to finish them today but still need to wax the truck before the flares go back on.

Looks naked w/o the flares;also will be painting the lower valance and tailgate trim too.

Also planning on adding rubber trim to the flares to keep them off the paint like J.A. did with his as shown on his site. Just need some trim from the older Tacomas.

I want to do the same, but it's just so damn pricey. Wish there was another durable alternative that was cheaper.

What price did you get? I'm looking into a couple possible cheaper routes for getting OEM besides a dealer.

Another shot of the scoop but still would like to body color match it someday but for now it'll do and doesn't look too bad.

i think that looks good too! I may have to do this to mine if it ever starts oxidizing. let us know how it holds up. i know any forward facing painted piece takes a beating and its hard to keep it looking good

Help

Help! I want to remove my hood scoop and plasti dip it. But how I do I remove it. It's rusting and fadded. I see bolts and screws under hood... But thought I'd ask before I start desesembling...
I got a 2003 4Runner sports edition 2wd
