Painting OEM Skid plates. What paint?

I removed the front skid plates while I was replacing the fluid in my diffs. The skids are looking pretty beat up and rusty. So I would like to wire brush all of the rust off as best I can and then paint them over. What paint would you recommend for this? Im thinking of painting them silver. The more durable paint the better.

Before I re-install them I have the joy of drilling out 3 bolts that snapped off while removing the skid plates. Ugggh.

Guess it depends on how flashy you want to be. First thought was plain black but then Gaterose has some red ones on his truck and they look pretty good. What color is your truck?

My T4R is black and I plan on painting the skid plates silver. Im looking for recommendations of the type of paint to use.

I got a $20 POR15 starter set off of amazon and used it to do both my 4runner's skid plates. This was last year and even after a new england winter, they look fantastic!

Stubbs Welding, a rock slider company, suggests "For paint we highly recommend HAMMER Finnish spray paint from Wal-Mart. It is very durable, cheap and easy to spray."

Bed Liner (at least on underside). I've bed liner on all plates cept front. Front is semigloss auto paint because its visible and smooth for ease of cleaning.

I did this about 2 months ago. I just went to Autozone and picked up some Rust-Oleum black enamel paint and put 3-4 coats on it.

The Hammer paint and Rustoleum are good cheap paints that hold up well. I personally used a heavy satin black outdoor Rustoleum paint on the old Zombie Truck's (POS '93 S10 Blazer 4WD) full metal rear bumper I made.

Bed liner is a good alternative as well, if you get a decent coat on it, it should stand up to most stuff pretty well. But keep in mind that it will still get scuffed and scratched up offroad depending on how rough you are in the dirt.

You can coat the frame and control arms with it (I've done mine) but scuff up the existing finish.

Rustoleum flat black is what I used. Looks good and held up well over the last year.

I put a 4 1/2" wire knotted wheel on my angle grinder. It took the rust right down nicely. My first 4runner was owned in NY for 6 years and was nasty. After that I sprayed 2 coats of auto primer in the rattle can. Then I sprayed two coats of under body to it. It looked pretty good. It's under the rig and going to get nasty over time. I considered color, but couldn't see the skids all that easily unless I got down to look under.

That stuff is commonly used here in the North East as an undercoating. It's about the same price and a lot more durable.

did the same thing a few months back but my skids are a bit used so aftermarket might be soon for me
