Actually what you should do is use plasti-dip first to see if you like it. It's a rubberized coating you spray on like spray paint. You may even like that finish better. If you end up not liking it, just peel it off
In the picture below, I used plasti-dip on the quarter panel to mock up how I wanted a skid plate to look

I think you should do it and post some pics so I can determine if I want to do the same! I think it would look really good using something along the line of bed liner which is pretty tough and easy to touch up. I used it on my last truck and was really happy with it.

when I bought Mine Ii wanted White or Silver ... Took me 3 Months to finally work a deal and it was on a Black one !1 I hated black But this is it ..I got it in Oct 2005 for 22,500 Cash OTD
I bought it new and Am just now ok with Black because its so scratched up it s not even funny now !1
But I wheel almost every week in the desert.
But I think The black fenders Would Look Awesome with Black Wheels
whats funny Is Im anal About keeping the interior Clean as He!! My wife doesnt mind the scratches but insists on a perfect interior as I do So People are suprised when they see the interior is as clean as any of them !!1

I think that would be sweet! I painted my fender flares with spray on duplicolor bed liner, and it worked great and is super durable. Just a thought.

Hey! I've seen that 4runner around my neighborhood!
I've also thought about what you're talking about. As you can see, I like the White/Black contrast and one compliments the other. But I still like White as the primary color and Black as a supporting color. Too much black then it starts competing with the white. In other words I like having a White 4runner with black trim vs having a White & Black 4runner. Something else to consider is "pinstriping". It's hard to see on white but sticks out like a sore thumb on black or darker colors. If you off-road in the sticks a lot then you're going to get lots of pinstriping. That plastic cladding that's painted black will be advertising pinstriping like beer commercials during the super bowl.
Like Josh suggested, try plasti-dip and if you don't like it, peel it off.

I know this is a little late but I just saw the thread.
Toy2G actually has the black flares & bumpers (though the front is tube) on his silver '04.
Looks awesome!
Thanks for posting the pic! Did you go satin black? I think it looks cool, giving your runner an original look. Once you get your new wheels & tires it will look even better. Any thoughts on painting your bumpers black? That may give it more of a rugged look...not sure.
I'll keep an eye out for your runner. I also live in OC. If I ever need some paint done I'll hit you up for who did your work.

Ya its a Satin Black. I am going to do Shrockworks Bumper/sliders and CBI rear. All the black will connect.

Will def look good once you get your bumpers. Good luck with the build. I think I speak for everyone when I say the mod list is never ending!
