Pairing bluetooth audio to macbook

Were you able to play audio through itunes as well as get the audio from video playback??

yes, audio was thru itunes and i get audio playback when watching a vid

I can confirm that this works...It took some effort though...don't remember the sequence.

Anyone else had any luck with this? I tried this again the other day as I was sitting in the car for awhile and wanted to watch a video.
The macbook would say it had connected, the car stereo just kept saying 'searching'. I canceled the search and it seemed to be connected.
Now the problem is I only seem to get audio when itunes is playing. I can get both music from itunes and audio from a video in VLC at the same time, but if i try to pause or quit itunes the audio stops.
Frustrating problem. I was able to get it to work by simply turning down the sound in itunes and keeping it playing, but I would prefer a better solution.

In most cases even if Bluetooth sees other devices and connects you won't be able to do anything without the proper software. I've found that Bluesoleil works well to do most things. It costs $27.99 but you can get a free version from Meritline.com that comes with one of their 99 cent dongles. I'm not sure if there is a Mac version though.

When it works it works great, when is doesn't, boy is it a pain to try and connect it again. I have found when the battery is low on the laptop, ipod, or whatever your portable blue tooth player is, the bluetooth tends to automatically disconnect the connection and reconnect when the battery is sufficient giving you much a headache in between. I can also confirm that you can connect a MAC book Pro's audio to be linked through the car stereo system via bluetooth this includes applications such as itunes, IDVD etc.... I would recommend "registering" the bluetooth device such as the computer for better connectivity results though.
When the bluetooth connectivity has given me more trouble than its worth, the good old aux cable comes out and piece of mind is had. Never fails, well for me anyways!

I think I know what you are talking about, granted I haven't experienced this on a macbook, but I think it's something to do with the way the bluetooth driver is setup? What I mean is, if whatever program you are using doesn't tell the bluetooth driver that you're playing music/audio etc..it won't transmit to the headunit, and the bluetooth signal remains dormant until it detects that, if that makes sense?
For example, when I have my phone paired and play music or video, the audio comes through the headunit fine, yet if I only play a game the game audio will not go through; BUT, if I play a game while playing music or video, I hear everything go through just fine.
The only thing I can think of is for you to try another video player instead of VLC? Whatever happened to the stock Apple player? Dare I say Apple's stock video software is actually not perfect in every way possible? :lmao:
