Paragon AP Anyone?

Hmmmmm. Tempting. I was thinking about taking my quads but this could be interesting. You need at least 3 vehicles. Next weekend is no good for me but the following is a maybe.

Yea. I'm looking to get some of the guys from my sig's pics from last trip, we would need a guide for the three vehicles. Worst comes to worst I'm going to post on the Paragon forum for some more people. I'm looking for either the 19-20th or the following weekend, preferably a Saturday.

This sounds like fun but we have a meet on the 19th and it's gonna be damn cold.

I ran this idea past my gf and she said it looks like fun. I'll definitely be going sometime in the spring/summer. For now, I'm busy snowboarding (one of the main reasons for getting the 4runner) but will be getting into off-roading too.

Also, I was thinking of setting up a T4R.org Jamboree in the summer so everyone in the NE can hook up and wheel together. It won't be limited to the NE people and I'd like to see as many people from this board come out. I can do some of the organization but I'll need help to pull it off. I think June/July would be a good time as it won't get too cold at night.

If you do go, have fun and be safe! :D

I've been meaning to go...

Paragon sounds cool. I've never been, but have friends that rode there on dirtbikes and quads. They said it rocks.

I spend most of my time in the NJ pine barrens, but a trip to PAP sounds good.

Can't make it in Feb, though. I also want to get my lift installed and some meatier tires before I take my t4r off the pavement. (it's only a couple of weeks old, still completely stock)

That shouldn't be a problem. They have different difficulty trails. I'm taking the easiest one first. I don't know if I'll have my lift and tires yet but I'm not going nutty on my first outting. And I've heard there's trails on the side to pass the harder obstacles if necessary.

I'd like to go, but like Bobby, sometime in the spring would be better for me. Bobby, I can help. We can talk about it on the 19th. I have some long range trips planned for the summer, one is the Lion's Back.

You have copy and paste the whole address in the address bar.

tried url tags but it didn't work.

We should talk about a T4R.org jamboree on the 19th. Paragon's probably the best place.

Hey, I was suggesting dates for the hell of it. Just cause people usually say yes and never follow through. I don't know if I can on the 19th really, just trying to push SOMEthing.

March? Any dates in mind?

Mid-April at the earliest for me. We can do a scouting weekend before the T4R.org Jamboree :D.

We're having a meet on the 19th and will probably talk about organizing the jamboree then. You should come if you can. I know it's a hike for you but there'll be at least 6 4runners and the food was really good. If you can't make it, that's cool too. I'll post info on the Jamboree here.

I think I should ask the forum owners/mods if this is cool with them first, huh? :o

I may be in for the 19th. I am trying to get a third truck so in case noone else shows up I/we will still be able to go. So far it is me (4runner), a Tundra and I'm trying to get my friend with a Montero to go. I'll update soon.

If you're sure about it I'll definitely go... I just need to know a. saturday or sunday of the weekend of the 19th.
b. we need a guide or any of you know the park enough to guide?

if you're sure about the 19th i'll post on yotatech and then the paragon forum and we'll just have people tag along if they want to, but you and I and your tundra friend will definitely go.

If you copy/highlight the link from right to left and then paste it in the address bar/window it will work.

Yeah, I was trying to make it easier for others and use url tags but it didn't work.

I've seen videos of Lion's Back where some guys didn't make it up. Be careful and have fun!

I'm reading the Paragon forums to see how the weather is, cause if its still icy idk about going, I don't wanna climb a hill, then slightly slip and cause damage to my truck. We wouldn't run anything except greens and maybe low blues... but still, I don't want to push anything.

Joe: If you still want to plan on the weekend of the 19th and 20th, either day, we can, and then we just see how the weather is and take it from there.

What do the other cars look like? Lift, good clearance, stock?

I went to Paragon for the 2003 East Coast 4 Runner Jamboree and it's a very nice place to go wheeling. However, (isn't there always a however) based on what I saw I wouldn't recommend it for folks with stock 4th gen 4Runners who aren't willing to experience a bit of damage. When I showed up in my stock vehicle they (very politely) informed me that even the bunny trails would probably be removing pieces from my truck. I was offered the chance to ride with someone in a lifted 3rd gen for the morning trip (on green trails) and could then decide if I wanted to take my truck out on the afternoon runs.

Best advice I ever received. The access trails are appropriate for stock 4th gen vehicles, but the green trails I rode are going to (at a minimum) seriously mangle your running boards and you should also expect to get some good dents and gashes in the skid plates and are also quite likely beat up your wheels and scratch the body on your truck.

Don't get me wrong, I think Paragon is a great place, and once I get about 50K on my truck and a lift kit, I'll be there a lot. If this is your first experience on a real off road course and you want to keep your vehicle as a really nice street truck that occasionally goes off road, this is most likely not the place where you want to learn to 4 wheel.

I thought that went without saying.

This isn't a picnic ground with some trees and we go around the corner, then back around the woods, through the puddle we call a pond and then we all have lunch. Its an offroad park, specifically designated for offroading. That being said, I don't see it being this drastic as having parts removed, gashes on the skid plate, etc.

I went on with my 2nd gen, took off my running boards the night before, and went on greens and blues. Ofcourse, 90 percent of it is how you drive and what paths you choose for an obstacle, but when the 4 inch lifted or more trucks were having no problems, I hit once or twice on my skid plate. That was about it.

So yea, he's right in the sense that IF you have running boards, take them off or consider riding with someone else. If you have a lift its preferred, if not then you can run the easier routes. That means you might bottom out once, twice maybe, but not gashes through your fuel tank or oil pan... you won't get insane body damage, not one of us got body damage last time and we ran considerably harder trails than I'm planning this time.
When we were running more difficult trails last time, I was the only one without any lift and with stock size tires for a 2nd gen, and I pulled through alright, NO body damage, NO damage to the truck, NO problems with departure angles, NO problems at all, just a dent in my skid plate and a smile on my face.
One guy got some body damage on a tacoma because of the conditions on a harder trail, where all (except the insanely lifted 1st gen truck) got pulled out of.

It would be Sunday for us but I still need to talk to the guy with t he Montero. I'll hopefully find out tonight if he will go. And I guess we need a guide because it would be my first time there.
