Paralyzed by indecision on tires

I tend to find myself looking at the weight of the tires a lot. There is such a huge difference between 47lb and 62lb tire on each corner! This is why I keep going back to the Toyo AT3 and the Nitto RG tires…

I just can’t seem to get my head around running super heavy tires for every day use, with the occasional off-road adventure…

UPDATE:

I went with the Trail Terrain. Honestly, I'm not even sure why, other than maybe Costco could source them more quickly than any of the other options. And we had a slow leak, so this needed to be done.

They're ridiculously cheap at Costco. I think it was somewhere around $700 out the door. They refunded the installation because they cocked it up so that saved me about $80.

Just wanted to post an update. They probably have 6-7K miles on them by now. There was the typical 68mph wobble that was there before the tires, and it's still there. Road noise is fine, wet traction seems fine. They haven't had much off-pavement stuff, but they've handled it fine.

I'd say they were a great value at that price point.

Get the MICHELIN LTX-AT2 in LT (Light Truck).

They are absolutely quiet on the road and very good for light to medium offroading. I keep them at 35 psi and life is good.

So I'm a bit hesitant on the AT tires. But, honestly, looks matter and I don't really want the boring option either.

I don't know about you guys, but I'll spend hours pouring over reviews and days pondering this decision. It's kind of ridiculous and paralyzing.

How about the B.F. Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A. P rated tire, but pretty rugged. They were the OEM tire that came on my 2002 Tacoma TRD 4x4 when I bought it new and gave me over 30k miles of a high percentage of off road and on rocky and technical trails. Sliced and diced but no loss of air and no flats. I replaced them with BFG All Terrain T/A’s, which I also run on my T4R.

For you folks that got BFG Trail Terrains, any updates? Likes or dislikes? I'm still kinda leaning towards them but haven't decided yet.

Best all around tires I ever purchased for my 4runner were Nokian Rotiiva AT. I drove hwy, gravel, towed and drove in snow and ice and never had a problem. Lasted 60K and I probably could have stretched a little longer but winter was coming so I got a set of Goodyear Wranglers AT cuz the Nokians werent in stock. Not happy

Lasted 60K and I probably could have stretched a little longer but winter was coming so I got a set of Goodyear Wranglers AT cuz the Nokians werent in stock. Not happy

Because Goodyear only makes absolute garbage OEM tires.

Another fan of the Nokian Rotiiva here. Got them in in 275/70/17 (C load) and have worked well for me. Checked them a few days ago and with 40k miles they still have 10/32" left, which is pretty good. Unfortunately, looks like Nokian discontinued the Rotiiva. The replacement is the "Outpost AT" and that looks like a much more aggressive tire, which could be a good or not-so-good thing depending on your usage.

Nokian is making a MAJOR push into the US market recently. They started sponsoring a big podcast I listen to and are doing some social media stuff as well. I want to try them for a 255/80/17, but it measures smaller than my currently 265/70/17 General ATX's.

I got a set of BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/As installed today (stock size, P265/70R17). They replaced the OEM Nitto Terra Grappler G2's that had 55k miles on them. So far I really like them. They look better in person. I don't really do any offroading so I wanted to try something a little more highway oriented but not as boring looking as Michelin LTX's.

They are much smoother and quieter than the Nittos but in fairness the Nittos did have 55k miles on them.
