Parking Ticket Rage

I can see your side of this. If I were behind a car getting ready to walk up to it I would be very nervous if I couldn't see what/who is in the car. On the flip side, it really irritates me when those who obey the law are told that they cannot do certain things because criminals ruin it for them.

I have my reasons for window tint. Might seem silly or bullcrap to some but, in philadelphia, pa we get tons of people following asian business owners home to rob them. Window tint helps me keep my privacy and keep a eye out for people following me home. if the need arises, i will exercise my constitutional right, the second amendment.
hearno kicker is my truck is parked, no occupants, legally parked...i know the troopers captain, he's a customer of mine.

gshadow325 I'm with you on the need for some people but as Sv pointed out, dirtbags ruin everyone else's fun. It's a dick move to give a parked car's owner a summons tho. In VA, that wouldn't be possible.

The code reads: "Except as otherwise provided in this article or permitted by federal law, it shall be unlawful for any person to operate any motor vehicle on a highway with any sign, poster, colored or tinted film, sun-shading material, or other colored material on the windshield, front or rear side windows, or rear windows of such motor vehicle. This provision, however, shall not apply to any certificate or other paper required by law or permitted by the Superintendent to be placed on a motor vehicle's windshield or window. "

As you can see, a person has to be operating the vehicle on a public highway for the summons to be issued.

I always respect our civil service people. You guys have a thankless job. It's the few who abuse their power to ruin it for the ones who respect it.

I also have to say that I have a high respect for those who serve in law enforcement. There is no way in hell I could take a job in it. You guys have to have pretty thick skin to work in it and for that I thank you guys for it.

With that said I have had my fair share of crooked cops pull me over like the one who pulled me on my way to myrtle beach back when I had my firebird. Was going speed limit and he pulls me over, says if I pay him 40 bucks he wouldnt write me a ticket. Being as I was from out of state, not wanting to hassle with the crap I paid him 40 and was on my way. Its usually the couple of bad apples that ruin it for everyone.

WTF??????????? I get complained on for looking at people funny.. literally. You can't let that kind of shit go. I pray for the day I get stopped and hit up with some shit like that. Oh God, I will do my best to video/get pics of the moment that guy realizes his life as he knows it is over.

Dude it looks like you 100% parked in front of a sign that says no parking.

I doubt you will win in court, especially if you walk in with this photo.

I agree it is lame to have to post the fine amount but that is how Oregon works. No different than having to post bail to get out of jail. Multnomah parking is criminal in my view. I got a parking citation during a daylight savings change and didn't pay the meter as I thought I was past the time. I was astounded by the fine. But handicap seem to be able to park all day long... I guess I am happy I don't that exemption. Good luck. Pay it and move on. Good to know they work all hours. Thx

Eh I was 17 at the time with my girlfriend. We were about 3 hours away from home in some small town that I had never heard of before on the way to the beach. I didn't know any better at the time and figured it would have been easier to pay him what he wanted than hassle with the guy and risk having to show up in court etc. I now run a hidden dash cam with sound recording that captures anything once the vehicle is running so stuff like that can't happen.

Welcome to Portland, home of the BS parking tickets. Those a$$holes will even look for things to cite you on that aren't even related to parking. My sister got a ticket for window tint downtown, while she was parked (legally!). I got one downtown in my other runner for no front plate.

Granted I hate getting a ticket just like the next guy, but why are they automatically "ass-holes" for citing you for having illegal tint and/or no front plate if it is required in your state?

It's kind of like OP getting mad at getting a ticket for parking behind a no parking sign, lol.

Of course it sucks to get a ticket even if you're in the wrong, but can't always place all the blame on the person giving the ticket if it was legitimate...they are just following the rules and doing their jobs.

Years ago I talked myself out of a parking ticket by telling the judge my kid would play lacrosse for him. Turns out he knew my brother, and therefore he knew I coached HS football and my kid played football.

I thought "hell yes". I get out of a $75 ticket, my kid plays lacrosse. Life is good. Lacosse costs $375 a season, not to mention the $500 for equipment. Gas for all the road trips, Dr. visits. Holy moly, $75 was cheap……

I know I was in the wrong. Like I said, I have no problem paying the citation. It's $80, but life goes on. The reason really upset is because I have to pay first before I get a chance to have a hearing.

Since I spend hardly anytime downtown, I would almost prefer to park in a garage every single time to avoid this. Though it costs a bit more, I would rather my money go to anyone but our jacked up government here in Portland.

Hmmmm, you know you are wrong and you want a chance for a hearing? Just so they can look at your pic and say uhhhh, pay the fine!
What's the point?

I would never just pay a fine and admit guilt regardless of the circumstances. Guilt has to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and sometimes you get lucky with a lenient judge. If you can spare the time, fight it.

The window tint is legal though (for her)! She has an affidavit of whatever it is called due to medical issues. They should look up the vehicle before writing a ticket.
My front plate ticket was just whatever. I bought the truck that way.

On a non-criminal matter in Oregon such as I believe is this case with a parking violation, the burden of proof is a preponderance of the evidence. Aka 51%.

In my city, our contested parking tickets are heard by a general district court judge and must be proven to the criminal standard. In fact, once contested, the issuing officer must go to a magistrate to secure a summons to issue the person contesting the summons. It's a violation of a city ordnance but taken kinda seriously.

Yeah, in Oregon, generally where there is no jail threat, they are treated in a quasi-civil manner with the civil burden of preponderance.

Funny, I got a ticket as well for no front license plate almost a year ago. That too, was around $80. That one really pissed me off because my front bumper does not have a spot to mount a license plate, and I had just gotten the car recently. I couldn't even zip tie it if I wanted to!!!

For the guys scratching their heads why I'm pissed, read the freaking thread. I know I'm guilty, but I have a right to a trial first. And you know what happens when you show up to court for traffic/parking citations? 99% of the time they reduce it or waive it. Might want to keep that in mind.

And another reason, $90 for parking slightly in a truck loading zone at 22:00 when said loading zone never gets used at ridiculous hours? Give me a break. Multnomah county can suck it for all the people they try to rear end for money.
