I have a chance to buy an 05 V8 230K super cheap (like 1/3 KBB) it has a few fixable issues but I'm really only concerned about the frame rust. This looks like a couple of holes to me. Thoughts? I really don't want one that will need to be patched anytime soon.

Frame holes can be welded, but the hole in your heart from breaking every single bolt cannot.

You can see on the front skid they already broke those and have through bolts on there now

Couple more pics. Weird bolt hanging through the frame too, didn't know what to make of that. Thanks!

Yea- I tend to be on the side of "ehh the rust isnt that bad,"
but in this case- I agree the hole already there is concerning. It will also be a PITA to fix and repair when it needs it (as previously mentioned)

The V8 is a great vehicle, but Id take it to a mechanic to look over before pulling the trigger

True. This is something I would buy for fun as an extra vehicle and wrenching that sure does not look fun. I'm NE though, so it's hard to find anything good. Trying to find one in AZ to ship but that is proving to be costly, ~ 5 times the cost of this one.

RUN!!!

Keep looking. I looked for months before I found a really nice one. Can't believe how clean it is . Keep looking. Pay for it.

IMO this rust does not look bad. I would seriously consider it for a low price. Rust sucks to deal with but its nothing some penetrating oil cannot fix. Then again I am from canada where this would be considered pretty clean.

I was thinking to myself, would I want this even if it was free? But I know the V8 is a great motor and it's cheap as hell so I wanted to double check with you all. Oddly, the owner is completely unconcerned with the rust and more worried about a minor exhaust leak.

Interesting note though, it's on the original timing belt at 232K. Pretty impressive.

If he/she neglected the timing belt, what else has been neglected?

I agree, I don't think they ever did anything to it except change the oil (regular oil changes on carfax). It's not currently on the road so I couldn't drive it either. I passed but man it was cheap. Someone is going to get a heck of a deal or a moneypit.

Yea, I wouldnt have any regrets about that. Too big a gamble. Likely not going to pass state inspection at some point unless youre willing to weld and patch holes again and again
