Pedal commander vs Sprint booster?

Sprint Booster arrived from Jason last night. Took 15 minutes to install including the time to leave the door open for 10 minutes, remove the switch blank, drill a hole for the cable, route/zip-tie the cable and install the dongle above the pedal.

Very pleased with the improvement in responsiveness - this thing does exactly what it is marketed to do. Added bonus is that the Sprint Booster quickly gets me into the "sound sweet spot" of the TRD CAI that I installed a few weeks ago. Settled on Sport 7 setting for now. Really like that I can quickly and easily turn the Sprint Booster off when I'm driving in snow/ice and need a more delicate touch.

Jason was very quick to respond to e-mail questions, which I really appreciated!

I agree 100%. But with that said, it is worth it. I really hated having to mash the pedal for the car to respond. Not only has this reduced the amount distance the pedal needed to be pushed, it has reduced the throttle delay entirely. It really makes the car far more drivable and responsive. I am still shocked I waited this long to install. It should be mod number 1, then the headlights, interior LEDs, etc.

I have to echo the much improved drivability upon adding the PC to my daughter's. Bought her the truck last Sep and when I drove it home, I felt the delay in pedal response and dismissed it being a "truck", though even her 2012 JK was less sluggish.

Kept reading these and I thought there's simply no way to apply instant fixes without a tune, but heck, for the $240 I paid on the PC, it was worth a gamble. I think for a DD, the city 0 or 1 settings put the truck to where i would consider "normal".

I chose the PC because visually it seems more polished, the BT is really not critical depending on the installation, I can't see her switching settings on the fly. I had hers routed to the glove box since it is a set-and-forget type deal. Could have gone for either device to yield similar outcome.

Glad I was wrong in doubting the effect.

Yep. I get 3-4 phone calls a day about this item. Not kidding. Everyone says "Why would Toyota let this leave the factory like this???" Because they didn't make it. The manufacture that makes the drive by wire module is just installed in your 4Runner like a Takita airbag. THey get it from someone else, it's pre programmed and has delay in it. This does work, and it's super easy to install. And yes, it still blows my mind how well it works, but you don't need to take my word for it, just read these posts.

I've had a few returns for the Pedal Commander as it's had some issues with the 4Runner radio and bluetooth. I'd probably recommend the Sprint Booster for this vehicle as I've had no issues to date.

Seems like most like it on green 7 or 9. Just wondering what it is about the type of daily driving you do that red 9 feels best for you. Or does the cold weather up there have something to do with it?

This thing sounds cool and I want one ! Only one thing I wonder about. I live in a beach community with lots of pedestrians, making going through "downtown" fraught with the peril of hitting some idiot who darts out into the street without looking.

So is it an advantage that there is a lag to my stock pedal? What do you guys think ?

No, there is no disadvantage. It makes your vehicle drive like every car did before 2003, when they ALL HAD a metal cable going to the throttle body. Newer isn't always better, and this is the perfect argument for that theory. It's freaking amazing. ALso, if you want to turn it off, you can in 1 second, but you will not want to.

I think maybe the “Red 9” comment was sarcastic. In Red 9 you will run the engine up to redline in each gear. I don’t think this is the type of vehicle for that.

I like green 5-7. You will learn how the pedal reacts with the sprint booster. In green 5-7, I can just feather the pedal and still just apply a little bit of power to keep rpms low when I’m not looking for brisk acceleration. But, when I need to accelerate, I get instant response and instant downshifts.

If you’re in a crowded situation like you describe, and you’re concerned, you just turn it off. I don’t have mine turned on any more than you would drive a performance car in sport mode.

Got it, thanks for that great reply ! I forgot it can be turned off. I was thinking to just set it then coil up the wire and store it in the glove compartment. But if one wants to turn it off like that, yes it should be accessible, for sure !

I have mine set at Race +2 at the moment. The pedal is definitely more responsive than when I had it set at Sport +3. I changed it to race mode over the weekend to see how it would perform on the highway. So far I like it better than sport mode. You can always turn off the unit if you are in a downtown type of environment where throttle lag maybe a good thing.
