Pedal commander vs Sprint booster?

Pedal Commander Customer service is simply awesome... as good as the product itself. i bought a used Pedal Commander from a FB member of a 4Runner forum. I received it, connected it to my wife's runner, it worked fine but the moment i connected to my phone via Pedal Commander app, it stopped working and got stuck in the ECO mode. I contacted PC customer service and they helped me to (1) identify that the unit I had was lost/stolen (apparently the seller was supposed to return it to PC for diagnostics but instead sold it to me -and thus the disabled it via the phone app, and (2) offered me a great discount if I was to purchase one straight from PC... once I recover my $$$ from the FB seller. PC customer service really stayed with me until everything was sorted out happily... and I now have an amazing unit installed in my 4R... and will be buying one for my wife's 4R.

I noticed similar results with SB, set at race mode 3
 
Love my Pedal Commander! Loving the pedal response. Haven’t had any issues.

I've have the PC now for a few months and I have to say it's the best bang for your buck mod I've ever installed, well besides a turbo kit anyways (not the 4Runner)

I hope everyone on the forum realizes the ramifications of what this member just described. A small third party company maintains control of a device hooked to your vehicle's accelerator via a cell phone app? Is today still april fools day? Let's all bet how much time & money the company devotes to securing that connection from external risks, much less who within the company gets to access it. I get that in this particular case the company claims the seller defrauded them out of a small amount of money, but realistically that's a rare case and possibly even partly the companie's fault - you're taking their word for it about the circumstances. And in this day and age it's either pretty ballsy or unbelievable stupid to admit they f'ed-up your car via remote access.

I've been trying to decide which product to go with to get rid of the maddening pedal lag, and this makes the choice very easy. Thanks for the head's up!

Well if you're concerned with "the man" having access or possible control over anything on your vehicle then just don't download the app. They can't connect to it if it's not connected via bluetooth.

I ordered a PC without Blue Tooth.......and got the BT version for the same price. I just don't use the BT. Use either of these devices in Stand Alone Mode if you fear ''remote control'' for some reason.
 
I installed my Pedal Command purchased from the OTW group buy but haven't installed the BT app yet. Yeah it does what it was marketed for but after reading about Sprint Booster Pedal lock mode, valet mode, and option to turn off the pedal controller, I'm thinking about switching over or trading my unit with someone.
 
So heres my take on the Sprint Booster. Dealt with Jason and he was awesome! Second ive been running it for a few days now and im set at sport7. Does it make a difference....a little. Is it holy s*#!...NO. From my been there done that experience for an extra $100 I would of done the Gibson SS exhaust. Will I pull it and return it...no. It does make a little difference but to me NOT $280 worth to put one on another vehicle. So just my opinion and obviously it varies from others, so you will have to decide if its worth it to you.

Rightly said. since I came to know of this, I use the PC but have not bothered at all to connect it to my phone app to control it using BT. I am more than happy to use the PC using the buttons on the unit.

For me it was well worth it as I’ve always loved everything about my 4Runner except for the laggy throttle and lack of power. Running on “sport 9” I now have instant throttle response and instant downshifts. It’s much more drivable now and really doesn’t feel underpowered to me at all anymore. I can see how it wouldn’t matter to someone who likes to drive leisurely and really doesn’t care about throttle response or acceleration. For me, it made a big improvement.

I love all the tin foil hat conspiracy theorists about the PC LOL You really think anyone cares about trying to tap into your PC with their phones or wants to track you? News flash! Your truck has GPS in it! You use EZ Pass? Yep, you can be tracked with that was well! Have a cell phone? Yep, another way to be tracked! If someone wants to find you, they will, it's that simple! Now, let's come back down to earth and post relevant things about the PC :)
 
Pretty sure I read in the 5th gen owners manual that the truck already records data for the manufacturer.

Still haven't decided where to mount the PC interface. Just have it laying in the shift boot area. Im thinking the little change holder depression near the shifter on the center console could be cool but I dont want to cut up my plastics. Need to find a spare one to experiment on.

YOU MEAN MY CELL PHONE IS TRACKING ME???? Haha - pretty sure no one said anything about tracking - where did that even come from? What we have: a podunk little company (compared to Toyota, GM, Ford, etc) that apparently actively demonstrated not just the ability but the willingness to remotely f-up customer vehicles. With that combination it doesn't even take malicious intent to cause a problem, all it takes is one stupid "remote software update" to "add improvements" to a device that's, um, connected to your throttle. I'd put that last part in all caps but I already used that for the jokey opening.

Would I trust Tesla to do that - maybe. Some little company with limited resources and a demonstrated mindset of it being ok, not likely. At the end of the day is a bad outcome likely? Probably not, but the chances are even less if I go with the choice that simply doesn't make it even possible. Seems like an easy win with virtually no downside.

But I also wear my seat belt, lock the doors when I park my car, have insurance, wear a helmet when I ski, a life jacket when I'm on the water, safety glasses when I'm in the shop, and... so wow, maybe I _am_ paranoid.

to be fair, they can't really f-up anyone's car but apparently they can stop the device from working... that's an important distinction
 
I bought the Pedal Commander on a group buy. Great deal. Very happy with the change in throttle response. I run it on city +2 most often. Just enough to “wake’ it up. A great addition given the road system here in Phoenix. Lots of stop and go and merging onto busy streets with a 50mph posted speed. I turn it off when I go 4wheeling. It’s worth it IMO.
