Where are you getting Toyota oil for less than $4.50 per quart? I'm on very good terms with my dealer, and I just paid $5.25 per quart. Thanks!

I always see these threads and wonder where ya'll find these prices. I consistently get Toyota 0w20 from less than $4.50 per quart. Which is consistently less than either Pennzoil or Mobil1 at wal-mart. I have stuck with Toyota as I am confident in it and it is consistently a better price, and I like keeping a bit of a relationship with my parts guys at the dealer. Any brand is fine as long as it meets spec, but I do think there is some merit and staying with one brand consistently as the additive packs don't necessarily work together as well as they could, and since you don't ever get all the oil out, swapping back and forth all the time effects that. Will it ever make a difference, I doubt it. But I choose to stay with one oil. For me, that has been the Toyota stuff made by Mobil. If I went with Pennzoil or Mobil1, then more often than not I would have to pay more to stay with the same stuff each time.

If I could buy TGMO for around $2.75 a quart after tax, I would stick with it. That's what I paid for Pennzoil Platinum after the rebate.

Platinum seems to be a great oil but I doubt you can go wrong with any full synthetic.

Pennzoil is the one made from natural gas. And Toyota oil is around $7.25 a Qt here and same on E-bay/Amazon. I pay $24 for 5 qt jug of Mo1 at Wallyworld.

Just to be different, I have been running Kendall since the factory fill. I do 8-9k mile changes, based more on time to do the work than anything and am at 95k miles now.

I ran PP0W20 in my Tundra when I had it -- always had good results. I have also used M1AFE 0W20 in my T4R -- always good results (see attached).

I have now switched to Amsoil SS 0W20, and though completely subjective I seem to have noticed the engine being a tiny bit quieter than when I was using M1AFE. I'll be doing my first UOA of the Amsoil shortly (I'm a bit over 10k with it), and will post my results from Blackstone.

Basically, any name brand synthetic oil in proper spec will be fine (though I have personally seen some truly scary evidence that SuperTech from Walmart is not a good oil in really cold regions).

Ok BRO :thumb: he asked for feedback. Some people might be a little hesitant to dump a synthetic oil made from natural gas into their engine. Too many armchair mechanics on the forum now.

My last time at dealer I picked up 6qts and filter for $35. Went in asked for 5qts and filter for $35 to match another localism dealer I pass on way to work. But it was summer and I was off (teacher). He gave me all six qts for same price!

And the best part of this report shows that the 10k mile OCI is good to go. I hope people that change their oil after 4-5k miles under normal driving read this and realize that kind of oil change interval isn't "cheap insurance"... it's wasteful on resources. Even my 8-9k interval is probably too short.

As I recall from a previous thread, you live in a rural area where most of your trips are fairly long, with lots of highway miles. Is that correct? It sure seems like your truck is easy on oil.

Pennzoil is getting picky with their rebates now. I've purchased at Walmart before and never had an issue with rebates being issued. Now Pennzoil denied my rebates because Walmart is "not a participating retailer". Anyway I'm going back to using Toyota brand oil from now on, as I did before.

Yep, I live in an area where the closest Walmart is 125 miles away (one-way), and the closest McDonald's is a bit over 50 miles away. I wish the Subway was closer, though, it's 95 miles away.

If did a lot more cold weather short trips, my UOA results might be different. I also still have my trusty little Saturn SL1 (279,000 miles) for all of my short trips -- and sometimes longer trips to save on gas.

The current Pennzoil Platinum $10/5qt-jug rebate is a gimmick. Many people probably bought and used the oil only to find out later when filing for rebate that the store they got the oil from was not a participating retailer. Walmart definitely is NOT on the participating list. The small list of participating retailers on the Pennzoil.com webpage reads like a bunch of made up names. You could type in your address/zip to search for nearby qualified retailers, but the chances are none would show up. There appears to be parallel promotion campaigns. At O'Reilly, you can download a mail-in rebate form to send in for the $10 rebate. However, a 5qt jug is $40 at there. Bottom line, no way you can get the $10 rebate at Walmart prices. Hopefully Exxon/Mobil does not go the same way Shell (owner of the Pennzoil brand) did. Walmart has never been on "Mobil 1 rebate"'s retailer list. But Mobil 1 has been honoring the rebate with a Walmart receipt up to now. If all else fails, there is Super Tech Full Synthetic (dexos approved) for $14.37.
