for my part, I park at the far ends of parking lots. I still got a total of 2 dents that I got repaired with paint-less dent repair for approx 75$ each
i've found my n-fab steps have saved the sides a couple of times. even had a traffic barrel, the big white and orange ones, blow over into the side of it and the nerf bars kept it at bay. now if its a jacked up truck though it will be high enough to swing over them though...
i disagree with this to some extent. i have seen way to many people push their carts towards the isles and sometimes on the side where the winds plays a role. i park far away. I get my daily walk and no dings.

Get a sweet lift like this and you won't have to worry about door dings and dents.

After consideration of the very same problem, plus the need to describe these sliders to my wife as "running boards", protection of your rocker panels if you start hugging a large rock or ledge, and the practical aspect of being able to jack either side of your vehicle up.........I went with the BudBuilt Beefy Sliders, and since I've occasionally got little people w/small feet and women with weird heels on their shoes who might get hung up on something open---their product provides the option of the diamond-plate insert the entire length for greater safety.
"Most" vehicles in parking lots will impact the slider before they hit your door with theirs.....that's why I feel these are worth the price as they do so many things:rain:

I've been looking at something like this but are they really out there enough to be used as steps? I need steps since I'm a shorty but keep looking at N-Fab nerf bars.

They are a lot further out from the sill when the door is open than it looks. But, they are not really good as steps since they are basically the same height as the door sill if you have the ones that are angled up. Mine I would say make it a bit harder to get into rather than easier, since I just have further to step to get in.

Yeah, I never park near cart corrals. You may not get a door ding, but you've got a good chance of getting a cart ding.
While getting some dog food last week, some asshats from the nearby Walmart didn't control their cart into the corral and it rolled down the slight hill 30-40 ft before hitting my wife's 4Runner. Luckily, it the front tire directly in the middle, clearing the tallest portion of the fender by a fraction of an inch. No damage done.

I just don’t understand how people think that it is ok to ding doors. Three times in the past fes months I have been audibly and visibly dinged while sitting in my (or my eife’s) Subaru by people who just get out and look,then say “ah. Look my car is scraped, too” or “darn these small spots.” No apology or anything. And, I haven’t even been there to see how two of my cars got dinged on the top edge of a door/window strip. But, there they are!
I liked speedy Gomez solution. I wouldn’t want to really go all mad max on anyone. But, maybe a full length door protector strip made of diamond plate or covered in spikes. Those would scare people off a bit.

Got super tired of a$$hat$ parking on my top of my Supra and Celica back in the day, I started carrying these with me. I was not into damaging other's cars intentionally (although I was tempted a few times), so this was a good passive / aggressive compromise LOL
P.S. Also note I would always park in the back of the lot away from other vehicles. People that went out of their way to park on my door handle, in a half empty parking lot, got these.

Ha funny, I had some of those 20 years or so ago.
Not defending the bad parking by the Subaru but is a Landcruiser considered a compact in California?
