People Parking Next to Me

I am not OCD but door dings make me nuts. Just another example of people acting like the world revolves around them. Like when they stand still on "moving" walkways or unexplainably manage to somehow block a 20 foot wide walkway in a mall and walk half as fast as everyone else and seem to just meander left or right aimlessly as if nobody is behind them. Since punching them is frowned upon in society, you just have to live among them and hope for the best. Dents and dings can be fixed and usually cheaper than bail.
I was sitting in my car once when someone parked beside me and proceeded to just sling their door open into the side of my car. I got out and insisted that they give me their contact information and insurance policy information. I reported it to my insurance company and they contacted the other persons company and I got a check for the repairs.

I use my rig so I'm not worried about what I do... i just really hate someone talking on their cell while pulling the baby out of the kids car seat and bumping their butt on their door... inflicting a dent in my vehicle. Since current laws frown on what I would like to do to them... the stock Trail side step is really at a great height to stop door dings from most all cars... Does not solve the issue but it does help.

A little over a year old and I also have paranoia over parking spots. I once parked at a home depot 20 spots away from the nearest vehicle only to find some moron in a rust bucket f-150 park right next to me with very little room to open my passenger door. The rest of the cars were still 20 empty spots away.

Sliders and a lift should do it. Now if you take 2 spaces I'm libel to make you get in via your passenger door.....:reddance:

The OCD comments crack me up. I work hard to buy nice things and I want them to stay nice as long as possible. A Ferrari to one person is a 4Runner to the next (or Honda or Kia, etc.).
My oldest son recently bought an older VW Golf. You would think it was a Ferrari because he is so proud of it. It's the first car he bought on his own and he wouldn't be happy about door dings either.

Be mindful of where/how you park works best for me. Also my metal tech sliders and lift prevent a lot of potential dings as lower vehicles doors will hit the rail. I've yet to ding my just over 2 year old truck, but I'm sure it's coming at some point. I have scratched it a little just enjoying it, but don't call those dings at least not like a door ding. I don't worry about it, just enjoy the crap outta it. One of my fav all time vehicles.:reddance:

Funny... I was wondering what someone from LA area thought of this topic. I visit Rowland Heights, CA a couple times a year. I see more LexusBimmerMercedesAudi's, all high end... and parked within inches... Now, even Massarati's... And, if you want to park a long way away... you will be walking miles. Parking is insane there. I feel spoiled in Colorado!

As others have mentioned, once you get your first few "self-inflicted wounds" on-record in one-way or another, you will be FAR less concerned with where you park vs. 'how-in-the-hell-close-can-I-get-to-the-store-to-avoid-walking-any-further-than-I-have-to' mode...
I have a visible door-ding that I received about 6 Months into "First Brand New Vehicle" ownership, and seriously considered hiring a PDR specialist to fix it, but I had already experienced 2 or 3 self-inflicted wounds by then (6 Months no less!), and that door-ding has slowly faded away into oblivion w/o a dollar spent...
More food for thought as you pile on the miles and "experience"

I don't think it is unreasonable at all. I've got a 14 year old 4Runner with 160k+ miles and I still park as far away from everyone as I possibly can. Yes I have plenty of pinstriping from trees and such when off roading, but those were caused by me using what the car was made for. They weren't caused by some ungrateful uncaring idiot who threw their door into me. I've never thrown my door into another car so it isn't something that is hard to do. People are just stupid and can't seem to figure out why they should car about your things when they don't have nice things, or don't car about their things.
As for avoiding dings I park as far away as I can, always try and park at the end of a row by one of those median/flower bed things and park as close to the curb side as I can to allow as much room as I can for the other spot. I also usually tend to back into parking spots when I can. It is easier for me to pull out forwards, and I seem to think that when someone backs into a spot they care more about their car then someone who pulls in regularly and maybe others will notice.
People think I'm anal with how I park my 4Runner, but I'm even worse with how I park my 87 Supra. It's in pristine condition for it's age and I'm not gonna let someone else ruin that for me. Neither of them are worth a whole lot, but they're mine and I'm proud of them. Sorry about the long post, but this is something that seriously irks me.

Get a dented, rusty first-gen, and park it properly and perfectly centered in the parking spot.
