percentage ethanol in gas

Is there a resource on the web that documents the percentage of ethanol in the gas sold by companies such as Pilot, QuickTrip, Shell, BP, etc...? I'm curious because it seems the higher percentage of ethanol present on the gas we burn the lower mpg we will get from our trucks.

I do dont know about every part of the nation, but I am under the impression that it is always a 10 % blend of alcohol with 'regular' gasoline. This would be known as E10. Every gas station in VA that I know of sells a 10 percent blend. They have a sticker on the face of every gas pump stating the ratio/mixture.

I know there are E85 stations (15 percent gasoline & 85 percent ethanol), but have yet to see on in Virginia.

The reduced fuel mileage (per gallon) is caused by ethanol having fewer BTUs of energy than gasoline.

There might be information available on-line from each oil company, but I would verify it with the owner or manager from the local filling station just to be sure. Many of them may get fuel from an independent wholesaler and the actual fuel may vary somewhat from area to area. State & federal regulations require various blends that may change from one city or county to the next. These 'boutique blends' are what help to drive up the cost we pay at the pump. Doh!



P.S. I filled up the diesel tanks in a big rig last night, and it was more than $750. Yowza!!

Check out this. The requirements of ethanol blended fuel can vary greatly from region to region and are mainly controlled by state legislation currently. You should also note this which will show the states that require the labeling of E10, as many states allow labeling E10 to be voluntary. Hope this helps and I'm sure others will contribute more/better info
