It's garbage.

It plugs into your OBD2 port, so it may or may not be able to read engine data. But to change fueling tables, ignition advance, etc, you have to change parameters in the ECU itself, and that "chip" can't do that.

I don't think you can even "chip" OBD2 computers; I think that's more of an OBD1 thing.

That's false. There were both chips and programmers available for my old Lincoln Mark VIII, and that was OBD II. I had the programmer, which flashed the ECU and was able to change many things. Same thing for my T/A, which was also OBD II.

I haven't heard of anyone doing this on 3rd gen 4runners though, which makes me think there's not much to be gained in flashing a new tune on there. But I'd be curious to see if anyone knows anything about that chip that you posted.

Yeah, when I say "chipped", I'm not refering to plugging up a laptop to the OBD2 port and reflashing the ECU. That is certainly doable with OBD2, as long as somebody makes the software to do it. Unfortunately, it's not available for alot of Toyota trucks.

When I think of "chipped", I think of burners using chip burning equipment, etc., kinda like the older GM crowd on the 60degreeV6 forum. I don't really have a whole lot of knowledge on the subject, which is I guess why I can't explain it very well.

I'm really not sure if we're talking about the same thing or not lol. But in my opinion, that's a "chip" that works for OBD II.

Again, I've never heard of anyone using a chip, or anything else to tune 4runners (except when they supercharge them and then use the URD software).

Edit: Here's another chip (again, not for Toyota's) and a quote from the site: "There is almost no parameter of the EEC we cannot adjust."

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible for this on our 4runners, but there's probably just not a big enough demand for a tuner to start offering it. I mostly see chips and flashers for performance vehicles.

I just looked over that sites 4runner section some more, and I wouldn't buy a thing from there. Any site that sells "electric superchargers that make up to 60 hp" and magnets for the fuel lines that supposedly help MPG, is the last place I would order a tune from.

Now if anyone has actually used one of these, and maybe has some dyno results, then I could change my mind. But until then, I would dismiss that site and just about everything on it. Although, that "Turbo Sound Muffler Tip" would be awesome as a gag gift haha.

I had the some thoughts about the electro SC kits LOL,
I was just wanting to know what you guys thought my runner already has a brand new SC I am just seeing what my options are for more hp
 
Any universal "performance chip" is bound to be useless sh!t. The JDM marketing on the product is terrible. The website seems to be ricer nonsense.
