Performance for the V8

Does anyone know any performance bolt on parts to gain HP for the V8? I have looked just about everywhere and the only thing that I came across was an intake. 12 HP for $300. I dont think that's worth it. Not interested in any major engine modifications simply bolt on. Such as a good set of headers. I already have Borla exhaust on it now. Any idea's?

Headers will cost even more and you won't even see a 10hp gain with those. Short of forced induction there really isn't much you can gain much past a simpler intake and exhaust.

:iagree: if u did exhaust, intake, jet high flow sensor, with unichip tuned for these mods, u might notice better throttle response, but its comes with spending big $, & i bet u end up removing the unichip like i did. & as far as i know, there are no headers made for the v8, if u did all these things, u might get that 12 hp that u stated, but certainly not with just the 1 , in fact, with just the exhaust & intake upgrade, u will notice the difference at highway speeds, but it will seem to lose some low end grunt around town, u can get that back though by modding the aftermarket intake to be a true cai. but the stock box already is, just remove the carbon filter, the combo of these mods look & sound cool, but they just arent gonna give u the hp ur looking for.

i wish there was some performance upgrades, if i bought the v6 i would of installed the supercharger but the v8 has no aftermarket.

What about superchargers for the 4.7 form TRD. I looked on the sight but its all for the V6. Did they ever make one for the V8?

I know this is an old thread... but figured I'd bump in case there are any developments.

Someone above mentioned the only real way to do this is forced induction.

Does anyone know of any aftermarket companies that make a bolt on turbo system or supercharger for the V8?

I want the power, but I want something that can tow my future yamaha jet boat... at about 4500lbs with trailer, I'm thinking the v8 is what I should be looking at... but at the same time, I really like the the fact that v6 has much more of an aftermarket...

Yes there is a supercharger, but it was designed for the '03-'05 V8's the '06+ V8 has some weak link in it somewhere and that's why they dont make it anymore

IIRC, the reason for no forced induction on the VVTI V8 engine was due to possible failure at the connecting rods. A new design in '05 narrowed them to the point that high pressue supercharging was causing engine failure. Anyone know if URD has a solution?

i contemplated getting the supercharger for my '05 V8. i was a student at the time and on a really tight budget. couldn't justify spending that kind of $ for the supercharger AND the lower mpg. reading this makes me glad i didn't. risk engine failure? no thank you

I'd love nothing more than to supercharge my 2UZ. If the TRD charger produced more boost than the rods could handle the solution is simply less boost. A supercharger is a supercharger, roots or centrifugal, no matter. Boost is Boost, and therefor the only way to minimize the potential for damage is to lower the boost, and increase a pound at a time until the breaking point is found.

Unless URD has been blowing up engines to find the point of failure I wouldnt put that charger on anything I own.

The connecting was a small problem compared to the other one which was the transmission. it can't handle it unless it was modded as well. IPT does have a great fix and I'm getting it as well. if you want TRUE power for your V-8 TTC performance makes insane stuff. they manage to put a twin turbo for it as well as other engine internals.

I'm just saying the supercharger found the weakest leak first which was the trans.

You guys are all wrong.

The V8 in the 4R and Land Cruiser are made in Japan and the connecting rods are forged.

The V8 in the Sequoia and Tundra are made in the USA with cast connecting rods.

There never was a reported failure in a 4R or Land Cruiser with either the transmissions or the engines.

Get your facts straight.
