Performance V6 vs V8

Just thought i'd chime in...

I drive a v8, and ive never driven a v6 but i have spent a lot of time in my buddies v6 taco which isn't noticeably different in terms of power from what i can tell just by riding in it. It is however significantly more noisy and sounds likes its working much harder than my v8 at the same speeds.

Also the v8 link posted above is the pre-05 version which isn't nearly as powerful. Plus the superior aerodynamics theory was never supported.

From all the data that I have seen, the 05+ v8 is about 7-7.2 0-60 and the v6 is about 7.5-7.7. The interesting thing is that it seems like everyone who has driven both says that the v8 felt my a lot quicker, but the numbers don't show it.

I couldn't find a test of the V6 4Runner. I know my SR5 is 4,200 lbs., curb, with no options, spoiler or roof rack. A Taco is around 3,900 lbs., so for sure it's a bit quicker, but FJs are 4,350 lbs. and LIKELY A BIT LESS aerodynamic because they're a bit taller yet a typical FJ seems just about as quick to 60 mph as a typical '05+ V8 4Runner.

Off topic:

I almost bought a Honda Ridgeline. It's a really good truck in many ways but I didn't buy it because it has a timing belt, it doesn't have a low-range and get this -- weighs 4,500 lbs.! My SR5 is 300 lbs. lighter.

Despite that timing belt, thumbs up for that 3.5L VTEC V6 in the Ridgeline -- it's smaller but still moves that heavy Ridgeline around pretty well AND it can tow 5,000 lbs.

Ive driven both v6 and v8....like you said... numbers dont show but feels different.. v8 seems smoother.... and v6 seems to work harder..... weird huh.. similar gas milage too...

First of all, it should be of no surprise to anyone that a V6 with less horsepower and torque works harder than a V8 that has more horsepower and torque. It's basic mechanical engineering. Not even worth mentioning.

Also, what's the problem with noise coming from an engine of a truck/suv? This is not a Lexus luxury sedan.

I'm sure the T4R doesn't have the noise isolating/dampening features that the Lexus does.

the v8's quietness/smoothness are actually pretty remarkable when compared to the v6. but that makes sense.

Sorry you can't hear your engine bro. Check to make sure they didn't put a hybrid engine inside your vehicle instead.

I enjoy hearing my engine. That's what a truck a SUV/truck is about.

it's more then civil around town, but when you put your boot down it breathes fire. hearing the motor under WOT is no problem, and that's the only time i want to hear it anyway. but to each his own. everyone will naturally like what they own more. cheers!

Interesting. I have the same experience with my V6, and didn't have to pay extra what...$2500 for the V8 to have that experience.

now you're just sounding foolish. my v8 was less than the v6 sitting next to it on the dealer lot (used). it's ok, you dont need to keep defending your v6. we get it. to each his own.

IIRC it was TOPS a $1000 difference. I also got a better transmission and overall drive-train.

I should hope you got better with that extra cost.

Better for your needs....doesn't exactly equate to necessary though.
