Performance V6 vs V8

And the Landcruiser owners would say ask who cares about mpg when you get a much better SUV that's more "bulletproof," can tow more without effort, etc. Who buys an SUV for great mileage anyway?

It's funny how all the V8 owners say the V8 is better for their lifestyle compared to the LC, but same argument for V6 owners saying the V6 is better for their lifestyle compared to the V8.

It's interesting how crazy V8 owners are about their engine, but Toyota now doesn't offer that V8 for any of their SUV's. Closest would be the 4.6L V8 for the Tundra.

I have an 04 LC - there is no comparison to the 4R

Yes effortless power. It moves the car scary quick even when kept under 2k. Drive one

Why are you comparing a Lexus with a base Toyota? Lexus is supposed to be nicer.

Because the LC costs so much more and the GX is actually a Land Cruiser Prado.

Why don't you a compare a LC with a LX then.

The specs from the GX actually compare better with the a base model 2010 Sequoia. The 2011 Sequoia got a lot bigger both in size and in standard engine.

Well, what's unusual about that? I think you're speaking the obvious.

As a vehicle tows more weight, fuel economy is expected to drop, whether it's a I4, V6, V8, or diesel.

I am more concerned about gas mileage when not towing because I only tow my boat to our local lake which is 5 miles away and I am not near the max tow rating for the V6.

Per the trip computer, our V6 averages 20mpg in primarily city driving in the foothills. It would probably be better if we lived in the flat lands. Does anyone with a V8 get 20mpg average city driving in the hills?

Please let us know how the test drive goes...I'd be curious. Also, for my needs, driving style, I'm not so sure I'd be taking a 470 off-road much without a few mods...it'll be sweet, I'm sure.

I really do like the GX. Actually, imagine the 4Runner being more quiet, more roomy, and very pimp on the inside. Other than that, same feel driving really.

I have an SE, I figure if I had a Limited the gap would be even closer. Now I'm fighting with, is the Lexus worth the extra few bucks? Air suspension, the sound system in the Lexus is crazy good. I'm looking at an 05 today with only 19K. I don't know that the 05 has the KDSS system or not. I think the sport package came out in 06 so prolly not.

Oh and the third row in the GX is a waste of time and energy. Lame!

GX exterior is very soccer mom. i also dont like how tall the car is. i prefer the more aggressive chopped off look of the 4R. i certainly do acknowledge the better lexus service experience and creature comforts, but you pay for it with weight and again the soccer mom image.

though i've seen plenty of moms in the 4R. oh well. at least int he 4R you can look tough all lifted out and sh!t. hehe

Then I switched to regular for a few months and I just switched back to mid grade again. It seems like I get 2 to 2.5 MPG better with mixed city/highway driving. I drive about 30 miles round trip to work mostly on the highway at rush hour speeds. I was getting around 17 and just put in a full tank of mid-grade, it's up to 19 just this morining after a quarter tank of gas. What do you guys think? Better MPG the higher octane? (tires at 38lbs)

It's interesting how crazy V8 owners are about their engine, but Toyota now doesn't offer that V8 for any of their SUV's.

Even more interesting is that fact that the (4 clyinder) engine that was added to the lineup after the V8 was dropped had the shortest lifespan in the USA marketplace of any Toyota engine that I can remember.

This initially appears to support my belief that the mpg difference between the 4L V6 and the V8 is more like 2-5mpg, not 1-2mpg. I get 22-24mpg on the highway in my V6...lighter two wheel power. Put it in 4x4 when I need it.

I know some of you V8 owners don't care and that's cool. Rock on with your bad self.:cheers:

And the most important reason to get GX over 4runner??

DEFINITIVE fix of the rear clunk issue!! Mark Levinson in the GX470 is decent to good, but not great...not as good as in the other Lexus (not named RX). But, the rear clunk fix is a biggie IMO.

The ML in the 460 has been updated, it has a different amp, speakers (and more speakers). Sounds amazing.

Koz, i am sure...that is why i wrote GX470...i know that your ML sounds good! I had really hope that Lexus put in the ML REFERENCE system in the GX since it does cost quite a bit. I love the ML Reference in the LS460...wow! The current ML system is very good too...so, i am sure that your system rocks.

Yes I get at least 1mpg better.
