Phase 2 of bumper build complete

Well I got my sides done on my bumper now to figure out time for phase three my swing away tire carrier and some minor finishing trim pieces. It is looking real nice IMO but then again I am the one building it so might be slightly biased. I also got my All Pro sliders on at the same time. Here are some pics.

Great build man. This sites very odd the tinier things get huge attention, more advanced mods and such usually don't get hits on here. I'd say you'd find more appreciation over at yotatech and definitely ultimateyota. try posting up over there. Wouldn't mind seeing some more pics always looking to steal other's ideas ;)

just looked at your user name, are you a pike by chance or is that some other meaning
 
Thanks for the compliment. The front bumper I was thinking of going with Shrockwroks or maybe an ARB. I like the shrock bumper alot but not sure i want to be out that kind of money for such a long lead time. ARB is okay looking. I would try to do my own front bumper but since I plan on running a winch and the more complicated tie in to the frame that I will probably buy one from someone. Not to mention i have a hard time finding the time to finish the rear.
 
Definitely looking good! I really like those sliders. Do you have any bigger photos? (the photos are all kind of small and I'm not able to click on them to make them bigger. Problem on my end?)
 
I think when I saved them to Photo bucket I saved them as small web pictures but all the ones I have not on PB are full size pictures. I think I will end up uploading the full size pictures to photo bucket at the end of the build and can send to people that are interested.
 
That looks pretty cool. Are you a Fab guy? Did you weld it up yourself? How long did it take? I'm a Mechanical Engineering student and one day i got the idea to start drawing parts for my 4runner. This is a pic of the front, it's not done yet, i gotta figure out the best thickness for the material. I've also drawn a Warn 9000 that will fit this bumper, plus shackles. And the rear bumper is a work in progress also.

No I am not a Fab guy. Basically I just looked at the two bumpers I had seen online and then adapted a little of my own style to them. I just happen to have access on a welder (friend with one) and a garage space whenever our schedules can mesh and then spend an afternoon here and there. The first phase took about 11 hours then the sides took about 8 hours. Even though I drew it all out we did a lot of seat of the pants desgn build changes. The main back tube is 2x4x3/16 steel the sides are 1x1 perimeter steel with 1/8 plate steel skins. Contact me for a little more information. I will try to figure out how to link my whole Photo bucket album that shows detailed photos for complete build to date. The rock sliders are All-Pro Off road sliders and love them, and yes they already have rock rash from usage.

Regarding Shrockworks, give them a call (if you don't design/build your own front bumper). They worked with me to do a 50% deposit on rails - everyone is hurting for business these days so some money is better than no money especially if it means a purchase over the competition.

K2 what application did you use for your designs; is that Google SketchUp or something from your school? You should look into supplementing some income and sell those to us forum members for a small fee...

The program is Autodesk Inventor Professional 2010. It's a very similar program to Solidworks. oh i've thought about that many times before. I might start up my own website soon to show my work or sell some.

I think Pritchnakoff had a great idea.

I know in my situation I have a friend with a cutting table, welder etc etc but he doesn't deal with bumpers and such. If a person had access to a CAD file like you made (great work by the way!) it could make my life way easier (and probably others out there).

My location is fairly remote so buying/shipping pre-fabbed bumpers is fairly difficult/expensive for me. But if I could dump that file into a cutting table and have someone local put it together I'd be pretty interested.

I'd be a happy camper to be a first customer for you! Especially for the rear w/ carrier.

looks similar to what some guys did over on a yotatech thread, the end result was pretty badass, it would be nice to have it all precision cut and not have to eyeball everything
 
From the pics it looks like you have a good size gap between the bumper on the tailgate now. Is that how you want it to be or do you have plans to fill that in somehow?
I'm looking forward to watching your tire carrier project, good luck.

Yeah, i still have to do a little more dimensioning on the rear bumper cause it's not super accurate but once i got that i'll throw a tire carrier on there to see what it looks like and i'll see how you guys like it. would you want a hi lift bracket on there somewhere? or message me if you want specifics.
 
Wholly Sh*t that's awesome - love the 4R!!!

Can you adapt that to 4th gen specs or to be more specific incorporate some round light ports for the lower rear lighting?

Still awesome, can't wait to see what happens after the "rough draft". Good work. :bigok:
