Phase 2 of bumper build complete

hehehe, I actually clicked on the CAD picture and tried to rotate it. :bash:
I'm at work and modelling using Pro/E at the moment.

The gap between the bumper and the rear hatch will be filled in with black diamond plate when I go to do my tire carrier as well as the little trim from the vertical sides over to the hatch. I think I might be able to get to it next weekend.

Wow. That "rough draft" is just plain awesome. That is what I picture for my truck when I'm thinking of a rear carrier!

Only thing I could think of that may be useful also, is perhaps on the outside of the swing arm to incorporate a gas can holder/license plate braket. Depending on clearance issues with tire size of course.

Well done on the arm, solid mounting point for the pivot and the fact that the arm has it's own notch on the other side would keep it good and strong no matter how rough the road. What were you thinking of using for a latch?

Your CAD skills are top notch, I deal with CAD all day every day too but I just model roads and measure volumes of dirt. Nothing as cool as that. Civil Engineering is way boring compared to this!

Yeah i had that in mind when i designed it but im thinking of taking the 4r out and moving it to the left side of the carrier and incorporating it into a gas can holder. I haven't worked on the file in a week or so, i've been busy with school stuff.

That is sweet I would totally put up a little cash for those CAD files. Maybe I could use my friends Rapid-prototyping 3D printer that prints in aluminum. No welding required it would be all one piece.

lol .... i was going to but i got side tracked doing some more research for me own version of a rear bumper. I do like yours, but i don't think my 4R would look right w/ all the flares and a bumper that wraps around ... anyway i won't clutter up your thread w/ my ideas, but it looks good, needs paint for sure, but looks good. I don't know if you said earlier in the post, but what are you using for the hinge?

these are looking amazing...would anyone be interested in selling these commercially? or maybe just selling the CAD file? my girl's dad owns a machine shop so I'm sure he could just plug in the values and cut me up an identical bumper

My project was just drawn out on graph paper to get general concept and shape. I mostly just sat there with the steel and measuring tape and started doing it. Changed a few things as I went so my fab time took a lot longer then expected since "just winging it' as I built. I will compile a file of my pictures and write down as much as I remember as I went along with any measurements I have. If you dont plan on running a swing away carrier lke I have then the bottom edge of sides can have a bigger angle like in the CAD Drawing someone else posted.

pikeman- Looking better and better, now you can show off that 5th Ivan Stewart. Do you still maintain functionality of the factory spare carrier? That would be a great way to run two spares.

Yes I can still use the factory spare location if I need to have two spares. I might make my next project an off-road adventure type trailer running the same wheels with spare also. Not sure since time and money are both non-existent. but i just traded a new full size/ width traielr axle for one width as our trucks, just not same bolt pattern. I hope I can change out to match

Hey Pikeman,

I'm just getting caught back up with the site being down all that time, didn't notice this was updated. (Thank god it's back).

The bumper is looking great, I like the curve of the bottom carrier bar that matches the bumper, very slick. Paint or not it looks great.

I was going to put my Hi-Lift on my new roof rack but someone told me that that is just one more thing that can resonate through the roof. Since I am building the bumper anyways I might try to figure a way to put it on the carrier. Thoughts or suggestions?
