Phone Mounting Options

Hi all, I am new to the forums and 4th gen 4runners in general. I will be purchasing a 4th gen this Saturday and wanted to get some ideas for cell phone mounting solutions.

I currently have a 3rd gen 4runner and am using a pro-clip mount and holder and absolutely love it. It is a little pricey but in my opinion, well worth the money you spend. I like the location of the mount on the 3rd gen but am not liking the 4th gen mount locations so much.

I will more than likely go with pro-clip again and deal with the fact that it blocks most of an AC vent but I wanted to see what others use to mount their cell phones in their vehicles.

My criteria is first that it has to be in a spot I dont have to look down and take my eyes off the road to see my phone (I use navigation and traffic apps a lot during my commute). Second, there must be room to plug my phone to charge while mounted. Last but not least, the whole mount must be secure...nothing worse than your phone bouncing around and flying under your feet while going 65+ on the freeway.

Anyone care to share their set up?

i use the tetrax magnet mount. It uses a small circular magnet to hold the phone in place. I'll upload some photos tomorrow, but here's the product.

Go Proclipusa....I have mine mounted over the AC vent and hard wired the USB directly into the stereo. Location is perfect and not distracting. I keep the vent closed and there's still plenty of air flow from the other vents.

I hate when they block the vents. Mine is a suction cup mount that secures to the windshield and I have it to the left of the steering wheel near the grab handle. It fits perfectly, looks good, within easy reach and does not block the view forward.

I use a suction cup Ram mount. The suction cup is just small enough to fit on the center dash bezel right below the hazard flasher button.

My radio allows me to control the bluetooth, make calls, and look through my address book without pulling out my phone. It never leaves my hip holster

I have a cheap temporary mount I bought from Walmart that works good. Needed it quickly about a year back. It has a suction cup that I mount to the windshield just left of center. A flexible arm extends out to the holder which sits in the notch above the radio on the front edge of the dash. I use it when driving on long trips and have had absolutely no problems with it coming loose, vibrating, etc. Listen to Slacker radio while using google navigation and gas buddy. It is easy to view and manipulate my phone while driving since it is just below eye level. Does not block any vents. Need all the air we can get in the summer Phoenix heat.

I am thinking of going with the model that straddles that vent horizontally. It attaches to the plastic in the center dash unit so it's not actually attached to the vent. It has a small amount cut out to allow some air flow at least. I think I can get away with sliding it a bit up or down too to allow more air to pass by.

That's pretty slick. How sturdy is it? Does the suction cup ever release unintentionally?

I use navigation and Waze a lot so my phone must be visible when driving otherwise I might do the same.

I have a universal suction cup mount from Verizon ($20-$25 i think). Works and looks great!!! I like it mounted on the dash better than windshield...

Ram suction cup mount right on the rh bezel below the hazard light button, as pictured above. My mount is an x shape, so I also turn it sideways and use it fr my GPS too. Easy, versatile and out of the way.
