This is hilarious.

You didn't "try something new" as you put it. You did something that has been proven over and over by people from all over, with all different types of cars and LED bulbs, that LED bulbs and reflector housings do not work well together.

They are very bright, you're right about that. That isn't the question. It's more about the beam pattern coming from a reflector housing and that being unsafe. You go ahead and do what you want, but don't try and tell everyone you're doing something new like some trailblazer. If that was the case you would have figured out how to use an LED bulb with a proper cutoff.

And they aren't as bright as HID's either. HID technology puts out more lumens per watt than either halogen or LED.

Looks like a huge difference in light output, but it's kind of hard to tell from a head on pic. Do you have another pic showing the beam on the road in front of the vehicle? To show the distance, etc. I'll have to look at buying new bulbs online. Might be a pretty big improvement from my current bulbs.

I don't think I am blinding anyone (surely hope not) and I def. see better with them than I have in vehicles with standard bulbs. I have been around my truck at night outside of it with the lights on and have not noticed anything negative. Might have to drive my g/f's car down the street towards me truck to see if it blinds me

All good suggestions. However, the way I tell if they work, is by my daily driving experience. No one has ever flashed me thinking my headlights (with the LED bulbs) was too bright. As far as putting LED’s into a headlight that was somehow limited to any improvement; as demonstrated by the; “You combined 2 things that were never intended to work as one.” Well, (surprise) they do work and they work well.

I guess a good analogy would be that no one ever “intended” to move away from a hot-ass filament light bulb, but with LED technology (i.e. using an LED light bulb in a lamp at home) low and behold, the LED lightbulb in a lamp at home works quite well, uses less electricity and puts off a brighter light…..whether it was “intended” is not the point……whether it works (or not) with a clearly distinguishable level of improvement…really is THE POINT…..just saying…..

I do not question people on this forum as to their decisions to try something new. If you try something new and it works (or is an improvement) GOOD FOR YOU! If your attempt at "new things" does not work, there is a lesson in that.

I do not adhere to some archaic mind-set that trying something new is a bad thing. Searching for something “new and improved” is the key to innovation and I for one, am ALL ABOUT innovation!

There's nothing wrong with trying something new. I work nights so I'm always interested in headlight threads. From what I've read LED's dont throw light down the road far enough. I agree with the above, adjust them against a wall and/or take some pics on a dark unlit road at night to see how far they throw.

If it's just the ballast and not a projector, you're probably blinding people. The best way to tell has been suggested in this thread a couple times. On a flat surface, shine your headlights against a wall and see where the cutoff is.

I know the difference between factory and factory housings with HIDs or LEDs in them.

This argument about the correct housings for the bulb type being used happens in every manufacture forum I belong too.

How dare you judge him, he even has most of his teeth. He told me that he had his wife/sister stand in front of the truck and the bulbs weren’t not too bright.

I mean the united nations and SAE actually write engineering specs for it... and the NTSB... and almost every state in the union.

so it's really not a big deal except for almost every standards based organization on earth did put it in writing so everybody could follow a standard.

the reason it exists is because of people like my uncle Gene who got a hold of airplane landing lights and put like 4 of them on his role bar (1970's pickup truck days) it was so cool he could light the place up. der taint no rules against its! there is now, thanks Gene.
