Here are photos for the new 4 Runner Power Steps from AMP Research. My rig was used as the test bed and what you see is the final design version...with the exception that some of the fabricated parts are not finished painted as the production version will be.
I can't tell you what a difference these make for ease of entry and exit on the 5th Gen. My sore knees and 5'3" wife say thank you every time we go for a drive. The step has a non skid surface that's very secure even when wet, and to say they feel solid would be an understatement.
There is lighting built into the system that perfectly illuminates right where you step up. As you can see from the photos with the original suspension, the step bisects the total rise from the ground to the threshold. I didn't think to take a photo showing a ruler across the step, however they measure out at exactly 6.5 inches wide
Originally I had the OEM Trail steps, which looked very cool, but weren't ideal for getting in and somewhat in the way getting out. I was afraid that while being helpful the AMP steps wouldn't look very good when retracted. Boy was I wrong!
With the Trail black cladding in particular the steps give your rig a very finished / factory look. Personally I've never been keen on 5th Gen lower panel that lets part of the undercarriage be seen. That looks is as if a piece if missing from the body. With the AMP steps that goes away and the vehicle looks much, much cleaner.
If you have kids, a short or pregnant wife, struggle getting stuff secured to the roof rack, want to lift but are getting flack on increasing the climb in, or just can't jump up and in like you used to, you might consider this product. It's not cheap, but the fit, finish, and function are beyond reproach, and the difference getting in and out is more than night and day.
