PIAA Xtreme white bulb questions

Has anyone replace their lo/hi and fogs with these . I think the lo and fog are H11 , but but not sure about the hi's . (I have to look)

This will be an expensive upgrade for all 6 bulbs . Is it worth it ????

How is longevity of the bulbs ?

Any problems with to much heat ?? wiring ?? lenses ??

They would be going in my 11 TE.

I do offf road and do live out in the country , so it is dark.

I have used these bulbs in other trucks. They are brighter than stock just like the Silverstar Ultras that I am using in my 4runner. The problem with any of these "higher intensity" bulbs is that they don't usually last as long as standard bulbs. Sometimes you might not get a year's worth of use out of them before they burn out. They do make a difference in visibility though.

I think he meant he wants a 5th Gen owners experience with these lights. Meaning he didn't think he would find that population on HIDPlanet's forum.

This guy has been nothing but pleasant in all his posts, not sure why his comments are being interpreted as otherwise.

I can't speak for these lights in a 5th Gen, but agree that in other vehicles you typically don't get the longevity like stock bulbs. Haven't had a problem with them as far as increased temperature effecting lenses or wiring either.

I had the PIAA Xtremes whites in my 5th Gen before I did the S2K HID projector retrofit. The PIAA's Xtreme Whites seemed brighter to me but not so sure after another review I read.They have the blue tip and that makes the light a bluer/whiter color which appears brighter but is really not.I wouldn't buy them again unless I found them cheap as stock ones.

Now on the subject of the high beams in which ours takes the 9005 bulbs. I recently put in HIR 9011's and there is a big improvement in those. You have to modify the HIR bulb base but it's really easy to do.

I agree with Harper 100%...I have them in my ride and while the light is a different color, they are no brighter and do nothing more visibility wise. I should have saved the money and put it towards a retro-fit.

Also - I have the plasma yellow fogs...decent, not as good as when I've put them in my other vehicles though.

H11 to H9 conversion...cheap upgrade and well worth it

I have been using H9s for the low beams and HIR 9011 for the high beams since December. The H9s are a huge improvement over the H11s. I was worried about overheating due to the higher wattage 65w vs 55w, but so far no problems at all.

The H9's produce 2100 lumens vs the H11's 1350 lumens, so you are getting a much whiter and brighter light. I aimed my headlights slightly down so that I don't blind other drivers and I have NEVER been flashed (yet).

You can order the HIRs from Candlepowerinc.com or amazon.

For the H9's I just picked up the cheapest Osram/Sylvania's that I could find. Then you have to make a slight modification to the base in order for it to fit. Just look at the H11s and use some clippers or a dremel to make the H9 tabs look the same. Here is are some links:

Silverstar Ultra bulbs are definitely brighter than the stock bulbs in a 5th gen. and they are not "blue" like some of the other brands. They are not cheap (40 or 50 bucks/pair) . I may end up with some sort of HID retrofit eventually. You will see an improvement with the Silverstars, but it may be a better idea to switch to HID and avoid the shortlived not as bright as HID replacement bulbs.

Enduro beat me to it. Save your money on the Piaa's and switch out to the H9's. I am running them in both low's and fog's and also have the HIR's in the high's. The combination is seriously ridiculous. They make any other bulb modification or switch a complete let down. Trust me, I spent 12 hours and a coupe hundred dollars adding Piaa 510 yellow fogs into the lower grill and they can NOT be seen when I switch them on as the H9's in the low beams and fogs drown them out.

That's 400 lumens per bulb, 28 combined LEDs per bulb. You are correct about halogen and HID producing more light (lumens) but the VLEDs are nowhere near a marker light. I can not explain why they look so bright, but they do. I disconnected the headlights and lit only the fogs and the VLEDs lit better (fog pattern, and temp.) then the OEM halogen. They look just like Silverstars (brightness) but a little higher temp (OEM HID, 4300K). I have HID headlamps and the H11 VLEDs are a perfect match. Also they are plug'n'play and a LIFETIME bulb. I'm SICK of replacing fog light bulbs (and the cost)!

Great thinking . I did that years ago on one of my other trucks and never gave it another thought.

Are you using just a reg halogen H9 bulb ? that would be a nice upgrade for fogs and for lo beams . I'll try to pick some up tomorrow. I do not know what Osram/Sylvania are . Is that the Silverstar ? or SilverStar Ultra or just a regular halogen bulb ??
